Vivo launches selfie-centric V5s phone for RM1299
Most smartphones place overwhelming emphasis on the rear camera. Vivo’s newly launched Vivo V5s goes entirely in the opposite direction by plonking a vastly more powerful selfie camera on the front than on the rear.
The V5s has a front-facing 20-MP camera which comes with an F/2.0 aperture, a larger 1/2.8-inch sensor and a dedicated soft flash next to the camera for more pleasing selfies as well as 1080P video.
This is further beefed up with a Face Beauty 6.0 mode that is designed to make even the most aesthetically challenged mug into something shareworthy. It also has a Group Selfie mode that helps to take better group shots by snapping a panoramic swath in front of the camera.
The rest of the hardware paints it as an affordable workhorse phone. You get a metal unibody aluminium casing which is 7.6mm thin and weighs 154g in your choice of either Rose Gold, Gold or Matte Black into which they have crammed in a 5.5-inch HD display with 267ppi, a Mediatek MT6750 octa-core processor running Android Marshmallow paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable memory via a hybrid SIM card. The rear camera is a more conventional but nonetheless respectable 13-MP camera with an F/2.2 aperture.
Of particular interest to audiophiles is that the V5s has a 3.5mm audio jack and an AK4376 DAC chip for superior audio reproduction. The phone will sport a hybrid SIM card slot and a 3,000mAh battery. All this clocks in at a rather reasonable RM1,299. As of today, the V5s hits stores in Malaysia nationwide.
