Dyson Zone air purifying headphones arriving in January 2023 in selected markets
Originally announced awhile back, the Dyson Zone air purifying headphones will be officially available for sale next year in selected regions.
Dyson Zone Availability and Price
According to Dyson, the new Zone headphones will launch first in China in January 2023 and in March 2023 in Hong Kong SAR, SIngapore, US and the UK. What makes the Dyson Zone unique is that it combines a pair of ANC-enabled premium headphones with a detachable air purifying visor that makes it ideal for use in urban environments with heavy noise and air pollution.
While no official price has been set yet, CNET has mentioned that it’ll cost a cool US$949 when it hits the US next year which works out to about RM4,000 or so. As yet, there’s no official mention of Malaysia price or availability yet for the Dyson Zone but we’ll keep you posted!
What is the Dyson Zone?
The biggest draw to the Dyson Zone is its distinctive air purification visor that is detachable and snaps onto the front of the headphone via a series of magnets like a mouthguard of sorts.
This visor is adjustable to allow for differently sized mugs and doesn’t touch the face while delivering air that’s purified with an electrostatic filter that purges 99% of pollutants as as small as 0.1 microns while capturing noxious gases like nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and ozone to ensure clean, breathable air even in urban environments. These filters don’t last forever though and you’ll need to swap them out after a year of use.
As a pair of premium headphones, the Dyson Zone is armed for bear with an impressive level of engineering and hardware that has become the signature of the brand.
The cans feature 40mm neodymium drivers with a frequency response of 6Hz – 21kHz with support for the SBC, AAC and LHDC codecs. According to Dyson’s boffins, the headphones have been engineered for a neutral sound profile and ultra-low distorting to ensure absolute clarity for mids, highs and bass at any given volume
On top of ensuring superior audio, the Dyson Zone also features an active noise cancellation system that has not one but a whopping 11 microphones with 8 mics to offer up to 38dB noise cancellation from 20Hz to 20kHz, monitoring the surrounding area 384,000 times a second to ensure annoying external noises are squelched with extreme prejudice.
Of the remaining three mics, two are used for noise reduction while one is for phone calls off a paired device. The headphones also have an alternative ambient mode that lets selected external sounds filter in like tannoy announcements or incoming traffic.
Keeping all this powered are two Lithium Ion batteries with a total capacity of 2,600mAh juiced via a USB-C port. Battery life is dependent on how you use it though – assuming you just use it as a pair of headphones, the Dyson Zone lasts for a whopping 50 hours.
If you enable the air purification and use the visor, you can get up to 4 hours of music and clean air if you keep it on low flow settings but if the air quality is horrific, you can dial it up to a high flow mode that lasts you 1.5 hours.
