New Huawei FreeClip Open-ear earbuds and more debut in gala Dubai launch

The recent Huawei ‘Creation of Beauty’ event in Dubai saw the brand announcing an eclectic array of devices but no new phones for now with the new Huawei FreeClip open-ear wireless earbuds taking pride of place along with a refreshed MateBook D 16 2024 with up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9 CPU and a MatePad Pro 13.2 2024 tablet.

All three are slated for arrival in Malaysia and appear on Huawei Malaysia’s official website though no official prices have been announced just yet at the time of writing.

Huawei FreeClip open-ear earbuds

Arguably one of the most unusual wireless earbuds in recent memory, the Huawei FreeClip doesn’t so much resemble the usual earbud form factors and instead looks like a stylised pair of plastic cherries connected together by a loop that they’ve referred to as a C-bridge design.

In essence, the Huawei FreeClip are open-ear designs that jauntily perch on your ears with IP54 dust and water resistance that offer about 8 hours of battery life and 36 hours in total in tandem with the charging case. At present, it’s been announced in purple and black colourways. Huawei Malaysia has officially announced the prices for the new Huawei FreeClip in Malaysia  at RM899 and general availability nationwide from 20th December 2023 onwards. Buyers will also get free gifts worth up to RM367 on purchase while stocks last.

Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 2024

The new Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2, also referred to as the Huawei MatePad Pro 13 2024 is notably their first tablet to feature the new inhouse Kirin 9000s processor that powered their Mate 60 Pro smartphone and will run their HarmonyOS firmware under the hood. The tablet features a luscious 13.2-inch 120Hz OLED screen with a 94% screen-to-body ratio and according to Huawei is currently the slimmest tablet on the planet at just 5.5mm with the narrowest bezels and highest screen-to-body ratio. 

After poring at its official specifications on the Huawei Malaysia website, the tablet will have 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage with the rear featuring a dual camera array (13MP+8MP) and the front hosting a lone 16MP camera for video calls. Keeping the MatePad Pro 13.2 powered is a large 10,000mAh battery split between two 5,000mAh cells that have support for fast 88W Huawei SuperCharge charging. 

The tablet itself has WiFi 6 connectivity and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.  It will interact with a new 3rd Gen M-Pencil stylus that uses NearLink tech for more accuracy when writing and will also ship with a new smart magnetic keyboard that includes a touchpad and a detachable keyboard for a more comfortable typing experience.

Huawei MateBook D 16 2024

The Huawei MateBook D 16 is a laptop with a 16-inch IPS LCD display that has a whopping 90% screen-to-body ratio and 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution while retaining the dimensions of a 15.6-inch laptop.

It doesn’t wander all to far aesthetically from its predecessor the MateBook D 16 2022 and has a similar chassis including a full sized keyboard that has a numeric keypad but has significantly upgunned hardware that consists of up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor and Iris Xe graphics, 16GB RAM and up to a 1TB SSD.

Keeping it powered is a 56Wh lithium polymer battery. The laptop also hosts their full suite of Super Device tricks including Huawei Share and Multi-Device Collaboration support to interact with their other phones, earbuds and tablets in a variety of ways.
