Call of Duty Vanguard takes us back to WWII this 5 November on all major platforms
The latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise dubbed Call of Duty Vanguard is slated to launch near the end of the year on 5 November 2021 on all major platforms including the PC via Battle.net, the PlayStation 5, the PlaySTation 4, Xbox One and the Xbox Series X|S.
In keeping with its origins, the game will have a single player campaign, a robust multiplayer mode as well as a zombie co-op mode. Developed by Sledgehammer games and published by Activision, the game will also feature the talents of Treyarch in regards to developing Vanguard’s zombie mode which is easily one of the most popular game modes in the entire Call of Duty franchise.
In terms of storyline, it’s currently sketched in broad strokes with the game featuring the exploits of a quartet of four soldiers from Task Force One, the apocryphal first special forces operators in a campaign spanning the Eastern and Western fronts of Europe, the Pacific and North Africa.
Some other interesting factoids mentioned in the sell sheet include the usage of the same engine as Call of Duty Modern Warfare which means, by extension, full integration with the best-selling free-to-play Warzone mode which means Verdansk will likely have another time jump back to World War War II.
Naturally, that raises the interesting question of how vintage weapons will be balanced against the cutting edge modern long arms seen in the present build of Warzone but that hasn’t been quite hashed out just yet.
What has appeared though is a teaser video showing what seems to be a female in a vintage WWII Soviet army uniform interrupting what would have been the victory ending scene for Warzone.
For multiplayer mode, the game will have 20 maps available at launch and the return of Gunsmith which means the ability to tweak weapons with additional accessories to finetune performance.
There will also be a Champion Hill mode with head-to-head 1v1 or 2v2 and 3v3 matches in a four-map circuit to find the last squad standing. One feature of note is that Vanguard will feature cross play and cross progression support to play with fellow players regardless of what platform they are on.
