Evolve for PC is now free-to-play
Remember the movie Predator? No, not the naff sequels but the original with Arnie where him and a team of badass special forces grunts romped through a jungle being hunted by an alien hunter with advanced cloaking, a sweet shoulder fired plasma cannon and a pair of Wolverine-style claws? Evolve is a shooter that aims to emulate that experience as both hunter and hunted as a 4-on-1 versus game where you pick and choose four different hunters to take on one elusive monster that’s also played by a human player. The concept is simple and with the right team playing it, rather entertaining. Now, Evolve has become free-to-play on the PC via Steam and will roll out eventually to consoles later on.
Developed by Turtle Rock Studios and 2K, Evolve was an intriguing game that suffered middling sales on account of its unusual asymmetric game model and a host of equally middling DLC. Now, as a free-to-play game, everything can be unlocked through play. Those who have already forked out cash for a copy of the original game will get what Turtle Rock calls ‘founder’ status where you get exclusive cosmetic items like skins and badges as well as all prior purchased content.
