Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp experience temporary outage of photos and videos
If you’re like the millions of people out there who rely on the services that Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp offers, you’ll likely have noticed that the service started going, how shall we say, a tad wonky from about 10.30PM last night Malaysia time with a commensurate spike in complaints on Down Detector all across the globe.
While the majority of the platforms were working in terms of sending and receiving texts, videos and images did not and in many cases were unable to be seen or uploaded which certainly made for imaginative reading with a swath of blank images all around. Fortunately, the problem has been resolved and everything is back to normal.
To date, the issue has been traced to what Facebook calls ‘degraded performance across all our API endpoints’ but this marks the latest outage since the hiccup earlier this year in April.
Fortunately, there’s no need to panic and services for all three platforms are back to normal sometime early this morning so you can get back to watching and sharing cat videos folks. Those who tried sharing videos or images earlier during the outage and were not able to see anything at all should be able to see them now.
