Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G takes impressive lead in global sales
Samsung is leading the pack in global sales of their smartphones and belying the fact that we’re in the middle of a pandemic, their Galaxy S20 range of phones are doing surprisingly well. According to Strategy Analytics, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G was the best-selling 5G device by revenue for the first half of 2020, accounting for a whopping 9% of global revenue.
Following behind in a close second was the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G at 8% of global revenue while the Galaxy S20 5G accounted for 5%. In total, the Galaxy S20 triumvirate of phones, excluding the new Galaxy S20 FE 5G that hit the market in the second half of the year accounted for a staggering 22% of global 5G sales revenue. That’s a fifth of the global market for 5G devices. You can peruse the details in full at Strategy Analytics’ piece here.
While the Galaxy S20 Plus 5G is the Goldilocks phone of the trio with a fantastic blend of price, performance and 5G connectivity, Samsung has also issued other 5G-capable gear at multiple price points ranging from the affordable entry-level Galaxy A51 5G to the ultra-premium foldable Galaxy Z Fold2.
This is building on from their successes in 2019 where they released the world’s first commercially available smartphones and tablets in the form of the Galaxy S10 5G and the Galaxy Tab S6 5G. At present, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G is available for sale in Malaysia with a price tag of RM3,999.
As 5G connectivity and adoption becomes more common, Samsung is looking towards introducing more affordable entry-level 5G devices to expand accessibility to the masses. “Our goal has always been to put the power of 5G into as many hands as possible and push the industry forward with pioneering innovations,” said Won-Joon Choi, EVP and Head of Flagship Product R&D Team at Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
“The early success of Galaxy 5G devices is proof that Samsung is offering users one of the best experiences 5G has to offer, and we will continue to do that by developing a broader range of Galaxy 5G devices at a variety of price points, adds Choi” For more details check out https://news.samsung.com/my/samsung-lit-the-path-for-5g-now-its-leading-in-global-sales
