Samsung’s 7000 preorders for Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are completely sold out
Samsung’s preorder blitz has gotten off to a good start as they’ve already sold out all 7000 of their preorder allotments for both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ on their official Malaysia website.
The preorder deal was open until midnight 13 April 2017 from 11 April onwards and is their largest preorder to date. Last years’ Galaxy S7 preorder launch offered a more modest number of devices up for preorder with a first wave of 1000 phones and another 2000 phones to meet demand.
While you pay full price for both phones in the preorder deal, with the S8 clocking in at RM3,299 and the S8+ at RM3,699, buyers enjoyed a pretty generous Starter Kit that threw in a clear cover, a screen protector, a wireless charger stand, a USB Type C cable, a 5,100mAh power bank, a one-year extended warranty plus an extended one-year of accidental screen damage protection too with the whole kit valued at over RM900.
While impressive, the preorder figures in Malaysia are dwarfed by preorders in South Korea. Samsung has smashed their own pre-order record in South Korea, selling over 728,000 units of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ as of 13 April. This figure surpasses their preorder sales figures for the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 that enjoyed over 550,000 preorders.
“The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus reached 728,000 units, as of Wednesday, in Korea. We are aiming to sell 1 million units before officially launching the smartphone,” said Samsung’s mobile business chief Koh Dong-jin at a media conference at its Seocho office building in Seoul.
The official launch is slated for 5 May 2017 in Malaysia with preorder customers getting their phones the day before. Till then, stay tuned.
