Synology showcases latest data management solutions ahead of World Backup Day 2024

Ahead of World Backup Day on 31st March, data management and security solutions provider Synology shared more about the lay of the land in terms of data management and security trends for the Malaysia market in a special security briefing.

While a host of cloud storage options are available, users and organisations alike are increasingly turning towards private storage solutions though the weakest link in any security setup still remains the people using it.

Catering to both personal users and SMEs alike, Synology offers a wide range of NAS offerings to meet the needs of individual users all the way to enterprise-grade offerings that are easy to configure, deploy and maintain on account of their Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the operating system running under the hood of every Synology NAS product.

Underlying the briefing is the prevailing need for back-ups and data security in a data-driven age where ransomware is potentially lurking in every email attachment and the possibility of malicious threat actors is around every corner.

The landscape of data management and security is rapidly evolving, and businesses need to stay ahead of the trend to ensure compliance and protect sensitive information,”said Jason Sin, Country Manager at Synology Malaysia. “Our event aimed to provide insights into the latest trends and technologies shaping the industry, empowering businesses to safeguard their data effectively,” said Jason.

To address this need for improved security and secure back-ups, Synology products implement a robust data protection process built around three principles which are prevention of ransomware attacks, centralised data protection to alleviate deployment burdens and comprehensive data recovery in their NAS storage products.

In terms of prevention of ransomware attacks, Synology products implement a Secure Signin login framework in DSM to enhance account security in which options to login via approved sign-ins, verification codes and hardware security keys to mitigate risks for unauthorised access.

The second principle Synology implements in their products is Active Backup for Business in their DSM operating system which acts as an all-in-one centralised data protection solution that can also cover not just physical servers and PCs but even virtualised environments too.

If the proverbial crap hits the fan, Synology makes data recovery much easier with Snapshot Replication where systems can be rolled back and restored to a previous state with system administrators enjoying a wealth of options in terms of scheduling and retention settings to meet the needs of any organisation.

There is also the option to implement an immutable backup to ensure a tamper proof master copy of data remains intact even in the event of a catastrophe along with a practical, easy to manage admin console to make back-ups fuss-free and easy.
