The RM19,000 Asus ROG liquid-cooled GX700 is here and it’s awesome
While Asus is best known of late for their Zenfone 2 range of solid phones as well as an array of notebooks, slates, components and more, they’re now making their presence felt in the gaming arena with the launch of arguably the coolest – literally and figuratively speaking – notebook on the planet. The Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) GX700 notebook is a beast of a rig both externally and under the hood that has been designed from the ground up to be the ultimate gaming rig.
In terms of design, the GX700 notebook takes design cues from Asus’ flagship G752 notebook with lines akin to an F22 along with thermal exhaust ports akin to jet engines and a striking paint job in burnished gray with red intakes. The casing itself is hewn from durable titanium for lightness and durability.
The GX700 notebook itself runs Windows 10 and comes with a 6th generation Intel Core i7-6820HK processor that can overclock itself to a nippy 4.0GHz. Paired with this is 32GB of RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU with 8GB GDDR5 VRAM and a pair of 512GB SSD’s in a RAID 0 configuration. The 17.3-inch LED-backlit anti-glare display serves up a crisp 1080P resolution and sports Nvidia G-SYNC tech that syncs frame rates to the GeForce card, minimise screen tearing along with other techno-mojo to ensure silky smooth visuals onscreen. To keep things cool, the GX700 sports what they dub as a Mobile 3D Vapor Chamber Thermal System that comes with a network of copper heat pipes to ensure improved GPU performance. Think of nitros on a sports car and you’re not far off.
While the GX700 has pretty beefy specs to begin with, what really makes it stand out though is that it’s the world’s first liquid cooled gaming laptop. When mounted to its liquid-cooled dock, dubbed the ROG Hydro Overclocking System, the ROG GX700 goes into overdrive with the ability to ramp up performance to gaming desktop levels of awesomeness and allowing you to overclock the Nvidia GeForce GTX980 GPU and the rest of its already impressive hardware for significantly improved performance.
A specially formulated liquid coolant thrums through its obsidian innards to rapidly vent heat while also providing corrosion protection for its internal hardware. There’s awesome, and there’s this behemoth. Combined, both the liquid-cooling dock and the GX7000 weigh quite a bit though at 8 plus kilos, which is why it also ships with a free luggage bag complete with foam-formed inserts to keep every component safe and secure.
To get your hands on this massive, amazingly powered example of gaming glory, all you need to do is to fork out RM18,999 inclusive of GST. To find out more, swing by Asus’ website here.
