Nokia 7 Plus launched in Malaysia at RM1699
Nokia’s return to the market last year via HMD Global was heralded with quite a bit of fanfare as their first wave of phones like the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 boasted of the exceptional build quality the brand was once known for back in its heyday combined with Android running under the hood.

Today, they’ve just announced the launch of two new additions to their line-up – the premium looking Nokia 7 Plus and the mainstream Nokia 1 that runs the lightweight Android Oreo (Go Edition). Here’s how they stack up:
Nokia 7 Plus
The Nokia 7 Plus is hewn from a single block of aluminium and runs a notably clean stock version of Android Oreo 8.0 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 2.2GHz processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. On paper, this offers performance approximately equal to a Snapdragon 821 processor though at a very affordable price point.
The display itself consists of a 6.0-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with a widescreen 18:9 aspect ratio sheathed in Corning Gorilla Glass 3; this would be the first Nokia phone to have an 18:9 aspect ratio display.
The rear of the Nokia 7 Plus consists of a fingerprint reader perched just underneath a vertically-aligned dual camera array. Both rear cameras sport Zeiss optics with the 12-MP with an f/1.75 main camera with Dual Pixel tech taking up most of the grunt work while a secondary 13-MP f/2.6 camera offers 2x optical zoom. Of note is that it now includes a Pro mode with vastly more creative shooting options. The front comes with a 16-MP camera, also packing Zeiss optics.
The phone comes with a 3,800mAh battery with 9V/2A fast charging juiced by a USB Type-C port. and it also has a 3.5mm audio jack for use with conventional headphones.
For Malaysia, the Nokia 7 Plus will arrive in stores on 20 April and will come in two paint jobs – black with copper trim and white with copper trim at a price tag of RM1,699. Each purchase of a Nokia 7 Plus will also come with an RM300 gift box that consists of a Bluetooth tripod, tempered glass and a set of wide, macro and fish eye lenses while stocks last.
Nokia 1
Designed as an affordable entry level phone, the Nokia 1 has a plastic casing ensconcing a 4.5-inch, 480 x 854 pixel display.
The phone runs the lightweight Android 8.1 Oreo Go edition on a MediaTek MT6727M 1.1 quadcore processor, has 4G connectivity, 1GB RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. The rear has a modest 5-MP camera with an LED flash and the front has a 2-MP selfie camera.
Of note is that the phone has a removable 2,150mAh battery charged by a microUSB port that offers 9 hours of talk time. The removable battery is a welcome option as you can swap them out in the field as needed if you have spares.
The phone also has a 3.5mm audio jack to use with wired headphones as well as swappable Xpress-On backplates.
It arrives in stores nationwide this coming April 13in your choice of a blue and silver finish or an orange and silver finish for RM339. While stocks last, Nokia is throwing in a free Xpress-on backplate with each purchase.
