Is the Lighthouse app on the Huawei AppGallery safe to use?
At present, the Lighthouse app has over 211,000 installs which is substantial by any measure of the word. Based on its official introduction, the Lighthouse app is as follows –
Lighthouse app is developed to help users to login to Google account and gain access to Google features.
Key Feature:
-Improve success rate for sending messages, and map sharing function
-Log-in to Google Maps, Google Chrome, YouTube & Etc
– Back-up Whatsapp messages into Google Drive System – icon might disappear on certain smartphone models on home screen, users might not be able to see the application icon on their home screen.
If you want to manage the application settings, users can amend through SETTING –> APPS MENU -> Lighthouse.
Lighthouse is developed based on legal and legitimate open source projects.
To wit, there’s no official mention or website for the developer Skywalker that made the Lighthouse app. While it could be an ardent Star Wars fan, there’s no digital footprint or literature for the developer. On top of the Lighthouse app, Skywalker has also made Lighthouse EX, a companion app that works in tandem with Lighthouse to enable Google app functionality and which also installs itself alongside Lighthouse.
However, in its favour is the fact that Huawei has been extremely stringent on ensuring that apps that make it on their AppGallery app store are authentic with every app undergoing a security check that requires the developer’s real name with authentication along with a thorough audit of an app’s purpose and privacy policies before being made available on the HUAWEI AppGallery.
To further ensure world-class security, Huawei has also received certification from the renowned British Standard Institution, a highly respected and neutral third party organisation, on ISO/IEC 19790:2012 that governs Information Technology Security Techniques.
Compliance to this rigorous standard requires four security levels of increasing levels of authentication for 11 critical requirement areas in the Huawei AppGallery and achieving this level of certification offers exceptional peace of mind for users of the Mate50 series as a safe and secure smartphone choice.
The Huawei AppGallery also has its own device-level security check that audits apps installed on the phone, even those outside of the AppGallery to ensure that they are safe to use for added peace of mind.
