Here’s 8 Reasons Why You Need To Own The New Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Flagship Foldable

Launched alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8 at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London, the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 features an innovative passport-sized form factor that has thus far seen record-breaking preorders of some 1.44 million units, surpassing the record once achieved by the Galaxy Note 10 that logged 1.38 million preorders way back in 2019.

We previously unboxed and reviewed it in detail here. Now, here’s 8 reasons why the Galaxy Z Fold 8 needs to be your next foldable.

#1 – Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 – Exceptionally light and slim design

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the lightest foldable in its class at 201g which is lighter than a can of soda. The phone is also just 4.5mm thin when unfolded and 9.7mm when folded down with the dimensions of a passport, making it extremely compact and pocketable.

Even with its slim and light dimensions, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features IP48 dust and water resistance which means that the phone is able to survive in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes and resist ingress from small objects larger than 1mm in size which means it’ll resist small pebbles, larger grains of sand and the like.

#2 – Powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor

When it comes to performance, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 gains a decisive edge over the competition with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor that is unique to Samsung’s phones and which is clocked faster than the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor seen in competing flagship designs.

This is paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage, allowing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to tackle everything from crunching spreadsheets to demanding games without breaking a sweat.

#3 – 7 Years of OS and Security Updates

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 sticks with Samsung’s commitment to offering 7 years of OS and security updates. Running Android 17 and One UI 9.0, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will get updates all the way to Android 24 and get security updates until 2033 which adds significantly to its longevity and service life.

#4 – Dual Cameras with Super Steady and My FanCam modes

When it comes to imaging duties, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is well equipped with a dual camera array that consists of a 50MP main camera that features optical image stabilisation (OIS) for steady shots and video and a 50MP ultra wide angle camera

Combined, the rear camera array is capable of capturing crisp stills and, even better, up to 8K resolution video. That’s not all, the Ultrawide Camera also has a Horizontal Lock mode that allows for smooth and steady video capture at up to QHD resolution even if you tilt or rotate your phone.

Even better, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 also features a My FanCam mode that uses AI to intelligently crop and track a single subject in prerecorded clips which is brilliant for family videos and content creators too.

#5 – Samsung DeX for a PC-like experience

Arguably one of the best-kept secrets of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S and Z series phones for years, DeX mode lets you turn the Galaxy Z Fold 8 into a PC of sorts, complete with a desktop-style interface. You can use it wirelessly with a compatible monitor or connect it via an HDMI-to-USB-C cable.

In DeX mode, you get a taskbar, desktop, folders and file management that will feel familiar to Windows users, all while Android continues running under the hood. Add a wireless mouse and keyboard, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 becomes remarkably close to a PC in your pocket.

For casual users who can get most of their work done through mobile apps such as Google Docs and Chrome, DeX is an effective way to squeeze even more versatility out of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It’s one of those features that can make the Galaxy Z Fold 8 feel like considerably more than just a smartphone.

#6 Wide cover and main Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 packs a front 5.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate and a wide 10:16 aspect ratio that’s great for one-handed web browsing, texting, scrolling through emails and social media. The cover display can also be rotated upside down and placed in tent mode for hands-free viewing especially for movies and other content.

For a truly immersive viewing experience, the main 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display features a similarly smooth 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and a broad 4:3 aspect ratio.

The larger amount of screen real estate makes it a delight for gaming, watching movies with minimal letterboxing and multitasking with the ability to display three apps simultaneously onscreen with an additional floating app onscreen.

#7 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 – Large 4800mAh silicon carbon battery

Belying its slim dimensions and weight, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 sports a 4,800mAh silicon carbon battery that offers comfortable all-day performance.

Even better, the phone also packs fast 45W wired charging and it also has 20W wireless charging too though you need a compatible charging with magnets for best results.

#8 Flex Titanium Tech for A Flatter Crease

For the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung has added its Flex Titanium technology, which combines a layer of titanium film with a titanium plate beneath the main foldable display to reduce the visibility of the crease while improving durability.

The titanium film is just one-third the thickness of an average human hair, helping Samsung keep the display assembly slim, while the titanium plate is both tough and flexible enough to accommodate repeated folding.

The end result is a flatter, more seamless-looking crease that makes the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s inner display look and feel more refined than its predecessors, while the added reinforcement should also help it withstand the rigours of everyday folding.
