Celcom to employ Rich Communication Service with Google
Celcom Axiata Berhad today announced that they’re taking the next innovative step towards revolutionising their carrier services as they will be the first telco to enable Rich Communication Services (RCS) for devices that use Android Messages as their default messaging application.
Android Messages is slated to supersede plain old SMS texting as it has the ability to incorporate rich content like sharing photos, read receipts and the ability to set up group chats. With the plethora of phones running Android, this may be just the means to make a mass adoption of RCS take and work in a market strewn with a host of competing alternatives.
As the first network provider in Malaysia to work with Google on RCS, Celcom is joining other international telcos such as Sprint, Rogers, Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Globe Telecom and more to enable this next-generation means of messaging. “Celcom is honoured to be the first network provider in Malaysia to work with Google on RCS. We look forward to innovating with Google to deliver new services on the messaging platform in the near future,” said Michael Kuehner, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad.
