Galaxy Note9 renders surface with rear fingerprint reader
The official global launch of the Galaxy Note9 is less than a month away but the grapevine is abuzz with what Samsung’s latest phablet will have to offer in terms of design, features and hardware. Someone even managed to get a hands-on with a pre-production version of the device though 91 Mobiles and leakster @OnLeaks have managed to source details as to the dimensions of the Galaxy Note9 and 3D renders too.
Externally, the renders depict a phone that is not all too different from the original Galaxy Note8 in terms of aesthetics and design. It still has a similar form factor as the Galaxy Note8, with slim side bezels and nary a front button besmirching the front display. The Note9’s display should be akin to its mainstream siblings the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in brightness and sharpness though sized up to the larger dimensions of the Note9 with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity display that has a 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
It seems they’re playing it safe this time around as the design does not seem to have an under-glass fingerprint reader. Instead, that feature has been moved to the back with a squarish fingerprint reader plonked just beneath a horizontally aligned dual-camera array. This will most likely feature their latest imaging innovations seen on the Galaxy S9 series phones. Odds are extremely good that it will feature their Dual Aperture technology and most likely the secondary sensor is a wide angle camera with 2x optical zoom to make it a very well rounded imaging option.
Based on analysis of the renders, it seems the Note9 will measure in at slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor with dimensions of about 161.9 x 76.3 x 8.8mm. Another leaker has inferred that the Note9 will resolve the issue of the Note8’s modest battery size and will come with a 4,000mAh battery; quite an improvement from the Note8’s 3,500mAh. The increased size of the battery will also increase the weight of the phone though, so it’s likely to weigh more than the Note8’s 195g carry weight.
Button placement seems identical as well in the displayed Galaxy Note9 renders, with a volume rocker and Bixby button on the left of the phone, a power button on the right and the base of the phone comes with a stylus well for the S Pen stylus, a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Following Samsung’s playbook for prior outings, the Galaxy Note9 will most likely come with two different processors, with a Snapdragon 845 processor for the US market and an Exynos 9810 processor for the rest of the world. Based on Eldar’s hands-on, the Galaxy Note9 will have a base configuration of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage with an expandable microSD card slot. Higher end variants with 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage and one with an 8GB RAM/512GB storage may be on the cards.
All this paints a picture of the Galaxy Note9 as being an immensely powerful device though little has been discovered so far in regards to the user interface and what other software tweaks that Samsung will integrate into the phone. Still, we won’t have long to wait.
