Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus smartphones debut in Malaysia

Even amidst a driving rainstorm that drenched half of Kuala Lumpur in a deluge of water, HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones made an even bigger splash in Malaysia as they launched their new Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus phones in the local market.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus boasts of Nokia’s typical impeccable approach to craftsmanship with a sturdy unibody aluminium chassis that holds a 5.8-inch, 2,280 x 1080 pixel display with 432ppi. Under the hood the phone runs Android Oreo 8.1 on a Snapdragon 636 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The rear is brought up by a fingerprint reader and a 16-MP f/2.0 camera with phase detection autofocus. Paired up with a secondary 5-MP f/2.4 camera that acts as a depth sensor for bokeh shots.

The front sports a 16-MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Nokia’s novel ‘Bothie’ mode which offers a livestream from both the front and rear cameras is present on the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The phone is now available nationwide in Gloss Black, Gloss White and Gloss Midnight Blue for RM1,149. While stocks last, Nokia is throwing in a launch bundle worth RM300 that bundles in a tempered glass screen protection, a silicon case and an action camera worth RM300.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus comes with a 5.8-inch HD+ display, a MediaTek Helio P60 octacore processor  and a rear dual 13-MP and 5-MP camera array encased in a metal chassis. Up front, it has an 8-MP f/2.2 selfie camera for self portrait shots. There’s no launch date as yet for the Nokia 5.1 Plus in Malaysia nor available colour variations or pricing but it is slated to arrive sometime soon in mid-October 2018.

Of note is that both the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus are part of the Android One programme which means each device is assured of at least three years of security patches and at least two years of OS updates after launch which ensures peace of mind for users.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is slated to arrive in Malaysia sometime in mid-October 2018
