Razer’s Project Hazel smart mask at CES 2021 is what we need now

Masks are becoming a fact of life in the new normal but barring swanky colours or swatches of fabric, they aren’t very different. At CES 2021, Razer says ‘hold my beer’ as they’ve just showcased their incredible Project Hazel smart mask.

What is Razer Project Hazel?

The Razer Project Hazel smart mask is a concept design that uses N95 medical-grade respirators that are replaceable with detachable and rechargeable disc-type active ventilators and SmartPods that are able to filter 95% of airborne particles.

One of the challenges when wearing masks is the lack of facial cues which is why Project Hazel has a transparent faceplate that also has interior lights that turn on after dark to ensure users can communicate clearly under rain or shine, night or day.

All well and good but where Project Hazel takes it to Cyberpunk 2077 territory is that the mask is actually smart in every sense of the word.

The mask offers active air cooling and regulation, venting out carbon dioxide while bringing in fresh air while lighting indicators show how much battery life is remaining before it needs a recharge. But wait, it gets better.

Seeing as this is a Razer issued item of gear, it has – wait for it – Razer Chroma RGB lighting built in so you can bling your way to glory with Project Hazel.

Juicing the Project Hazel smart mask is by placing it in a wireless UV sterilizer/charging box that disinfects and charges it too.

“Razer acknowledges the uncertainty in the road ahead, and so it was our duty to help protect our community members and prepare them from invisible threats,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer. “The Project Hazel smart mask concept is intended to be functional, yet comfortable and useful for interacting with the world, while maintaining a sociable aesthetic.”

Bear in mind that this is a concept design from Razer and it may not even see production but we really hope it does!
