Launched a few short weeks ago in San Jose, Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 series hit the stage with a host of AI-powered features. Among them is a new Audio Eraser mode that makes for an unusual and useful addition for novice and prosumer content creators.

Audio Eraser is a Galaxy AI powered feature introduced with the OneUI 7 update that is present on all three of the Galaxy S25 series phones – the base Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra. When recording videos, you’ll often get unwanted noise be it whistling wind, noisy crowds and, especially for content creators, copyrighted music playing in the background that could potentially create a copyright strike when uploading to YouTube or other video sharing sites.
With Audio Eraser on the Galaxy S25 series, users are able to record a video and then remove unwanted noise as well as amplifying desired sounds in a video. Want a louder voice when you’re speaking into the camera while muting out the crowd and the whistling on a windy day? It’s entirely possible. Audio Eraser runs through the entire selected video and then uses AI to mute out or amplify the sounds you want.
Users may wonder whether Audio Eraser differs across the Galaxy S25 models. However, all three variants—the base S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra—feature the same powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, ensuring identical processing speeds and results. The choice ultimately comes down to personal preference regarding screen size and if you need the Ultra model’s S Pen stylus and improved ultra wide camera.
How does Audio Eraser work?
To use Audio Eraser, open it up in the Samsung image gallery on the Galaxy S25 and select your desired video that you want to edit. From there, you simply have to tap on the Pencil icon and then tap the Audio Eraser icon located in the rightmost of the bottom row of icons.
You then simply have to tap the Audio Eraser button and Galaxy AI will analyse the sound from the clip and present to you options to either mute or amplify detected sounds broadly categorised as Voices, Wind, Crowd, Music or Noise with the option to tweak each aspect to taste.
With Audio Eraser on, you can manually use a slider which goes from -100 (mute) to +100 (amplify) with each aspect of sound you want to edit and preview by pressing the Play icon as well as compare the sound with the original by tapping the Hear Original icon. You can also enable Auto mode where the AI will attempt to intelligently keep the voice of a main speaker and try to mute out the rest.
Once you’re satisfied with the outcome, you can save a copy of the edited video. The magic here is that Audio Eraser isn’t limited to just captured videos – you can download videos from other sources onto the phone for Audio Eraser to work its magic. Here’s a bullet point of how it works:
- Open the Samsung Gallery app.
- Select a video and tap the Pencil icon.
- Choose Audio Eraser from the bottom row.
- Let Galaxy AI analyze the audio.
- Adjust sound elements using sliders (-100 to +100).
- Preview changes and compare with the original.
- Save the edited video.
In effect, Audio Eraser offers the potential to turn a normal song from a music video into a karaoke track by muting out the audio or turning a song into an acapella track by muting out the acoustic accompaniment. It’s an interesting toolbox to tinker with indeed.
How effective is Audio Eraser?
Audio Eraser is designed for casual users rather than professional content creators, and while effective, it is not flawless. It occasionally mistakes voices for background audio and vice versa though it is remarkably good at dealing with wind noise and background music.
When tested in arguably the most challenging scenario of all – a voiceover in the middle of a Chinese lion dance performance, my voice, which was initially inaudible over the sound of enthusiastic cymbals clanging like a fire alarm was made surprisingly clear though there was the occasional odd squelching noise here and there.
The fact that Audio Eraser managed to salvage voiceover from what was essentially a chaotic cacophony of noise is impressive indeed, more so for the fact that it can be done on a phone instead of a recording studio and made easy enough to use that almost anyone can tweak the audio of a video.
For a fresh new feature, Audio Eraser is surprisingly decent for its intended audience of casual users looking to clean up the audio from a family video or other social gathering. While it’s not quite ready for professional work in its present form, Audio Eraser can only get better with time if their improvements to Generative Edit are any indication.
Is Audio Eraser available on older Samsung phones?
While it is currently exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series and OneUI 7, Audio Eraser is expected to roll out via the customary OneUI update to older models in stages such as the prior Galaxy S24 series and the majority of last year’s flagship devices like the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 over the next few months.
