Samsung Galaxy S25 series revealed at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 with more AI features and fast Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processors

Last year, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series spearheaded the charge for the inclusion of AI features on smartphones with their Galaxy AI that offered a wealth of helpful features ahead of the competition.

With Chinese New Year just a few days away, the brand has pulled a night march and have unveiled their latest flagship phones – the Samsung Galaxy S25 series that place an ever greater emphasis on AI not just to clean up shots or to translate foreign languages, but as a daily companion while building on the proven form factors from last year.

Contrary to rumours – you still get a trio of models in different sizes – the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25+ and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Here’s what’s new with the Galaxy S25 series and how they stack up to each other.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series – Design updates

Consisting of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series look surprisingly similar to their respective predecessors, having retained a similar Floating Camera design language where each of the cameras on the rear get a chunky circular housing to protect it that’s done up in matte black regardless of colourway.

You also get flat screens across the board and similar form factors with rounded corners and a vertically oriented rear camera array.

The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ have the same screen sizes and dimensions as their respective Galaxy S24 series forebears though they are slightly lighter with the Galaxy S25 being lighter by 6g and the Galaxy S25+ lighter by 7g while retaining the use of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the front and rear along with the use of tough Armor Aluminum for the chassis.

The top of the line Galaxy S25 Ultra gets the most improvements and is 15g lighter than its predecessor the S24 Ultra while using the new Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass on the front display with the use of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear.

Like its predecessor the S24 Ultra, retains the use of titanium for the chassis. The Galaxy S25 series all retain IP68 dust and water resistance ratings across the board which allow for immersion in fresh water for up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes at a time.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series – Galaxy S25 Ultra gets a larger display

For displays, Samsung has kept it similar to last year with the Galaxy S25 getting a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 1,080 x 2,340 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a similar 2,600 nits peak brightness.

The Galaxy S25+ gets the same treatment with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 1,440 x 3,120 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,600 nits peak brightness that’s similar to its predecessor the Galaxy S24+.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the only model that gets a slightly larger display via 15% slimmer bezels, growing larger by 0.1 inches to get a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that features 1,440 x 3,120 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,600 nits peak brightness.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series – Snapdragon 8 Elite processors all across the board

There are no Exynos processors this time around and the entire line-up uses the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset that offers 40% better NPU performance, 37% better CPU performance, 30% better GPU performance and 40% better advanced ray tracing performance compared to the prior Galaxy S24 series versus the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is also clocked faster than a stock Snapdragon 8 Elite though in what fashion was not elaborated on in official literature.

The new Galaxy S25 series also get larger vapour chambers too for better sustained high performance with the Galaxy S25 Ultra getting a 40% larger VC while the S25 and S25+ getting a 15% larger VC. The entire Galaxy S25 line-up also utilises a customised thermal interface material (TIM) this time around for even better cooling performance.

This time around, the entire line-up gets 12GB LPDDR5X RAM as the default RAM option across the board with 256GB and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage options as well as an online exclusive 1TB for the S25 Ultra.

Running under the hood is the latest Android 15 with One UI 7.0 with 7 guaranteed years of security and OS updates which means that the phone will stay secure and updated all the way to Android 21 and get updates all the way to 2031. Samsung Galaxy S25 series – S Pen stylus gets streamlined for Galaxy S25 Ultra

Much like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 Ultra retains an S Pen stylus embedded in a stylus well in the left of the phone but this time around, it’s a bit of a step down as they’ve removed Air Gesture functionality from the stylus which means you don’t get the ability to use it like a wand to control content playback, volume or to act as a remote shutter release.

If you still need Air Gestures, the S Pen Pro which is sized larger like a conventional pen is still available and compatible with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series – Cameras

For cameras, the Galaxy S25 series retains similar setups for the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ for last year’s models. In essence, the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ still stick with a similar rear triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, a secondary 10MP f/2.4 camera with 3x telephoto zoom and a 12MP ultra wide angle camera.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra gets a slightly different setup with a larger 50MP ultra wide angle camera which replaces last year’s 12MP ultra wide angle sensor. The new 50MP sensor is also capable of high resolution macro photography versus the 12MP ultra wide seen in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The rest of the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s cameras are otherwise unchanged with a 200MP f/1.7 main camera with OIS, a 50MP f/2.4 telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a 10MP f/2.4 camera with 3x optical zoom

All three Galaxy S25 series phones stick with a 12MP front-facing selfie camera.

Improvements this year for One UI 7 that’s running on the Samsung Galaxy S25 series include an Audio Eraser AI that is capable of muting out music, or voices in a track to eliminate potential copyright infringements or to deal with unwanted voices in a video. The Galaxy S25 series can now also record in 10-bit HDR across the board which is an improvement over last year’s 8-bit SDR with four times wider dynamic range.

The Samsung Provisual Engine also gets improvements in low light photography that they’ve referred to as Nightography with less noise, more details and double-analysis noise removal along with interframe analysis and pixel level data analysis for crisper clearer shots in low light.

They’ve also integrated a special Spatio-Temporal Filter that allows the camera to distinguish between moving and stationary objects for clearer, crisper shots and footage.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series – Battery and charging speeds

Samsung has played it safe for battery sizes this year and sticks with the same battery sizes from last year for each respective model though battery life is expected to improve on account of better optimisation.

One particular feature that gets a notable upgrade is wireless charging with the entire line-up supporting the new Qi2 standing which offers 15W wireless charging with built-in magnets for accurate alignment of the charging coils rather than having to fiddle about finding it.

The Galaxy S25 gets a 4,000mAh battery with 25W wired, 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging while the Galaxy S25+ gets a 4,900mAh battery with 45W wired charging, 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging. The top of the line Galaxy S25 Ultra gets a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired, 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy S25 series colours
