Samsung launches Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Icon X at IFA 2017
The IFA tradeshow is one of the hottest events on the planet for consumer tech with companies from around the world gathering in Berlin to show off the hottest devices they have to offer from microwaves to phones. In Samsung’s case, they’ve just recently launched their titular phablet the Galaxy Note 8 in New York. At IFA 2017, they’re ramping things up a notch as they have just taken the wraps off three new wearables: the Gear Sport, the Gear Fit2 Pro smartwatches and the Gear Icon X wireless earbuds.
The Gear Sport comes with a rounded 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display and is exceptionally durable as it is rated to MIL-STD-810G standards, allowing it to shrug off drops and immersion in up to 50 metres of water. On top of telling the time, it’s able to also do all the usual like track your heart rate and the usual array of activities including walking, running and cycling along with the notable addition of being able to track your laps in the pool. The Gear Sport also the added bonus of acting as a remote control for a host of other devices as well as their Gear VR headset. Of note is that it also has support for Samsung Pay.
The Gear Fit2 Pro is a successor to the Gear Fit2 fitness band and comes with a rectangular 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display and has similar water resistance as the Gear Sport, allowing it to perform swim tracking on top of monitoring all the usual running, cycling and the like. This means that you can keep it on your wrist in up to 50 metres of water on top of it also toting a heart rate tracker to monitor your ticker. On a single charge, it’s rated to run for four days before needing a juicing. It comes in either black or red.
The design of the Gear IconX doesn’t fall far from the proverbial tree and it looks quite similar to last year’s design: two separate wireless earbuds that sit securely in your ears to take calls and play music. The improvement this time around is better battery life with a rated 5 hours of playtime streaming tunes off your phone and about 7 hours if you play tunes off the 4GB of onboard storage. Other bonuses include a Running Coach function that gives you real-time, in-ear updates when you’re on the track.
For Malaysia, the Gear Fit2 Pro is slated to arrive sometime near the end of September while the Gear Sport and Gear IconX is scheduled to reach Malaysia sometime in November. In the meantime, you can admire the goods on their official trailer below:
