Samsung volunteers aid local Cambodian community as part of Love and Care programme
The lives of hundreds of impoverished children were made quite a bit brighter when a contingent of volunteers several dozen strong from across Samsung Electronic’s Southeast Asia and Oceania divisions took part in the ‘Samsung Love and Care’ community outreach programme that saw them giving aid and assisting the local Cambodian community in Phnom Penh.
For the second year running, this year’s ‘Samsung Love and Care’ programme saw 56 volunteers taking time to reach out and aid more than 2,800 underprivileged children in Cambodia. The volunteers worked in close coordination with the People Improvement Organisation (PIO) and Pour Un Sourire D’enfant (PSE) groups to help refurbish schools, plant trees and also teach the children basic literacy and numeracy while forming ties to the community. The children were also donated Samsung tablets that were equipped with educational learning apps to springboard their education.
The programme isn’t just the only thing that the tech giant has been conducting to reach out to the community. They’ve also established the Samsung Cambodia Tech Institute in 2014 as a vocational training institute to offer youth a chance to acquire IT and engineering skills and has an alumni some 190 strong that are now starting to make a difference in the community.
Samsung Cambodia has also contributed significantly to aid in the preservation of the temples of Angkor Wat and pledged to donate KHR10,000 (about US$2.50) for every Galaxy J series phone sold to aid in the conservation of the temples.
