vivo X200 FE Review – Compact flagship phone with massive battery and ZEISS cameras tested

To date, only a few smartphone manufacturers make compact flagship phones, which is why the pint-sized vivo X200 FE is a veritable unicorn. Not only does it shoehorn in flagship grade specifications and cameras as well as a mammoth battery but it manages to do so in a chassis that’s just 7.99mm thin.

We got our hands on a sample for field testing ahead of launch and after taking it for a spin, here’s our vivo X200 FE review where we share if this pocket rocket is all it claims to be.

vivo X200 FE review – Build and Design

Rather than simply making everything bigger, the vivo X200 FE goes in the opposite direction with a sleeker, smaller form factor without compromising on performance or durability; features that often fall by the wayside in the pursuit of making something smaller.

In Malaysia, the phone comes in four possible colourways with your choice of Black Luxe, Yellow Glow, Pink Vibe and, in the case of our vivo X200 FE review sample, a surprisingly tasteful shade of baby blue that they refer to as Blue Breeze.

vivo X200 FE Review colours

Rather than simply opt for the usual mirrored or metallic finishes that are in vogue with other flagship phones, the vivo X200 FE  actually goes for a rather unique frosted anti-glare finish that not only repels fingerprints and glare but also looks surprisingly tasteful to boot in an understated yet classy way.

The Blue Breeze finish of our test sample looks exceptionally premium indeed on account of vivo using a more sophisticated chemical process that creates even finer and more delicate crystals on the finish.

Adding to its premium look and feel is its completely flat back and front with its curved corners that harkens to designs from Cupertino though it gets a higher level of toughness as the front 6.31-inch AMOLED ZEISS Master Color display is protected by SCHOTT Xensation protective glass that has military-grade resistance to drops and scratches.

That’s not all as the vivo X200 FE also has an IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance rating that also resists high-pressure jets of water and even steam intrusion in the off-chance you use it in a sauna.

Combined, this enables the vivo X200 FE to get an SGS Triple Protection Technologies certification that vouches that it is resistant to dust, water and shock too which offers added peace of mind against dropping or scratching it by accident.

The display which has been tuned by ZEISS for colour accuracy and clarity, hence its designation as a ZEISS Master Color Display, also has a fingerprint reader in the lower quadrant while a tiny slit up top holds the earpiece and a second speaker. Of note here is that the display is completely flat with its slim side and top bezels maximising screen real estate.

The backplate feels surprisingly sensuous to the touch with just enough grip for it not to slide off your fingers and even after a week of heavy use, the finish has thus far held up well without any smudges or fingerprints.

vivo X200 FE Review box angled

Beyond the Blue Breeze finish, our vivo X200 FE review sample has the vivo logogram emblazoned in silver in the corner along with the raised camera housing that crams in a 50MP ZEISS telephoto camera and a 50MP main camera into an oval-shaped housing with an ultra wide angle perched in its own separate housing as well an LED flash riding shotgun. Of note is the inclusion of a Stage Mode setting designed for capturing performances on stage that’s ideal to capture shots between 3-10 metres and with 1x, 3x and 10x zoom.

The left side of the phone otherwise unremarkable save for some antenna bands with the base of the phone featuring a single USB-C port, a nano SIM card tray and a grille for the speaker with a matching pair just above the display to create a stereo pair while the right side features the usual power button and volume rocker.

Up top, the vivo X200 FE has a somewhat rare feature as phones go – an infrared blaster that allows it to control home appliances and act as a remote for air conditioners, TVs and other smart devices.

Combined, the premium materials, curved corners and flat screen make for a comfortable grip especially when wielding it one-handed. While it is a bit on the heavy side at 196g, the premium materials and its durability more than make up for it with the added heft adding to its classy look and feel. As compact phones go, this is easily the best looking yet.

In keeping with tradition, vivo has thoughtfully thrown in several accessories for units sold in Malaysia though this can vary depending on market. Our vivo X200 FE review sample came with a fast charger, a casing, a USB-C cable as well as the usual SIM card pin and warranty literature.

As an added bonus, they’ve even added a pre-applied screen protector to the display. While it is unnecessary seeing how tough the screen is, it’s still a welcome addition to the phone.

vivo X200 FE review – Specifications and performance

The vivo X200 FE is every bit a flagship phone with the hardware to go toe to toe with this year’s heavyweights with a potent Dimensity 9300+ chipset paired with blazing fast 12GB LPDDR5X RAM as well as 12GB of Extended RAM assigned off the onboard 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The RAM itself is the current fastest read/write speed commercially available for RAM while the UFS 3.1 storage is respectably fast though it isn’t the bleeding edge of tech with some competing phones using UFS 4.0. Even so, this does not affect day to day performance in all but the most exotic, demanding scenarios.

vivo hasn’t skimped on heat dispersion either. Arguably one of the most important aspects of a flagship phone,  the X200 FE features a 3830 mm2 vapour chamber to and also integrates high-performance thermally conductive graphite that offers 44% better heat dissipation than standard graphite. Here’s how our vivo X200 FE review sample stacks up on paper:

Price RM3,199
Display 6.31-inch LTPO FHD+ AMOLED ZEISS Master Display , 1,216 x 2,640 pixels, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR1, 4,500nits peak brightness
Processor Mediatek Dimensity 9300+
OS Android 15 with FunTouch OS 15
Memory 12GB LPDDR5X RAM w/ 12GB Extended RAM / 512GB UFS 3.1 storage
Cameras 50MP f/1.88 w/ PDAF + Sony IMX921 VCS Bionic Sensor + OIS,  50MP f/2.65 ZEISS Super telephoto camera with OIS, 3x optical zoom and ZEISS lens + 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle [rear] / 50MP f/2.0 [front]
Battery 6,500mAh w/ 90W FlashCharge
Size/Weight 150.77 x 71.8 x 7.99mm/ 196g

Running under the hood is the latest Android 15 along with vivo’s own FunTouch OS 15 overlaying it. Much like prior versions of FunTouch OS, you can only disable Extended RAM but can’t reallocate how much virtual RAM you’d like to use though this isn’t a deal breaker by any means.

While there’s no official word at the time of writing, it’s expected that the vivo X200 FE will enjoy the same four years of OS updates and five years of security updates as its flagship siblings. It isn’t the longest in the market but it’s still a decent duration.

When subjected to synthetic benchmarks with the full 12GB of Extended RAM in play, our vivo X200 FE review sample scored the following:

3D Mark Steel Nomad Light 1,756
3D Mark Steel Nomad Light Unlimited 1,504
3D Mark Solar Bay 7,426
3D Mark Solar Bay Unlimited 7,809
3D Mark Wild Life Extreme 4,521
3D Mark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited 4,591
Geekbench 6 Single Core 2,217
Geekbench 6 Multi Core 7,209
Geekbench 6 OpenCL 14,904
Geekbench 6 Vulkan 15,393
Geekbench 6 AI (CPU) 2,968
Geekbench 6 AI (GPU) 1,266
PCMark Work 3.0 14,390
PCMark Battery Life 24 hours 47 minutes

In terms of performance, the vivo X200 FE gives a good accounting for itself. Comparably speaking, the Dimensity 9300+ chipset in the X200 FE has a slight lead over the Dimensity 9300 chipset which saw service in last year’s flagship vivo X100 Pro which remains a phone to be reckoned with today.

While it is outpaced by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset seen in several current day flagship phones in terms of sheer single, multicore and graphics performance, it more than holds its own in all the tasks expected of a phone.

Websites opened up in seconds, multitasking was a breeze and there’s more than enough pixel crunching performance for video editing on CapCut and heavy gaming too though this isn’t its forte seeing as there are more specialised designs.

Like all phones of recent vintage, the vivo X200 FE with Android 15 also features the Google Gemini AI Assistant with the ability to circle to search objects onscreen, translate text onscreen and identify music being played which comes in quite handy on a day to day basis.

When subjected to the 3D Mark Steel Nomad Light Stress Test, our vivo X200 FE review sample had slightly lower performance comparable to the earlier Dimensity 9300 in terms of best loop score (1,671) and lowest loop score (972) though it exhibits slightly better stability (58.2%) with less aggressive throttling though it runs slightly hotter between 37°C to 46°C though these limits aren’t apparent in day to day usage.

Where the vivo X200 FE trumps all comers is its battery life with the phone scoring a whopping 24 hours and 47 minutes in PC Mark’s battery life test and a comfortable two days with normal usage, making it among the best on test among current flagship phones in 2025.

This is also on account of a modestly sized display, efficient chipset and above all, the sheer size of its 6,500mAh BlueVolt battery. vivo’s battery tech has expanded by leaps and bounds, integrating a host of cutting edge battery tech including 3rd gen Silicon Anode tech that allow it to have higher energy density and better stability in temperature extremes as well as app optimisation to cut down on unnecessary usage.

From dead zero, the bundled 90W fast charger is able to offer a full charge in about an hour which is decent seeing the sheer size of the battery.

Vivo’s collaboration with ZEISS has expanded beyond cameras to displays with the vivo X200 FE featuring a ZEISS Master Color Display. In effect, this is a 6.31-inch AMOLED display that’s tuned by ZEISS for lifelike colour accuracy and detail with, a full 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut and a ΔE of 0.27 which is exceptional as displays go.

The flat AMOLED panel also has 2,160Hz PWM dimming, 5,000 nits local peak brightness and also features SGS Low Flicker and Low Blue Light Certification along with HDR10 and Netflix HDR certification which comes in handy seeing as Squid Games season 3 is already making the rounds.

Among the current crop of displays, the ZEISS Master Color Display panel used on the vivo X200 FE is among the best for its size, with good clarity under daylight conditions and superb colour rendition as well as pin sharp text. Belying the size of the phone, the stereo speakers do a solid job and offer a good level of detail and volume. At maximum level they’re loud enough for personal gaming or Netflix binging.

vivo X200 FE review – Cameras

Belying its modest dimensions, the vivo X200 FE doesn’t skimp on imaging and camera performance with an impressive triple camera setup on the rear.

The setup features a 50MP F/1.88 main camera that uses a high-end Sony IMX921 VCS Bionic Sensor with optical image stabilisation, an equally powerful 50MP ZEISS Super Telephoto camera that uses the same Sony IMX882 sensor as the vivo X200 that allows for up to 3X optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom and up to 100 digital zoom.

Last but not least is an 8MP ultra wide angle camera that sits separately in its own housing away from the main 50MP cameras. Accompanying the rear triple camera setup is an Aura Light fill light for portraiture capture tasks.

The rear triple camera setup is also capable of up to 4K@60fps video and up to 15x digital zoom. Up front, our vivo X200 FE review sample hosts a single 50MP camera for selfies and video calls with 4K@60fps video capture and up to 2x zoom.

Beyond hardware, the vivo X200 FE also benefits from a number of ZEISS-tuned enhancements that elevate its performance, especially in certain scenarios. Chief among them a specially tuned Stage Mode to capture crisp and vivid stills of performers onstage that’s ideal for moderate distance, such as at a small club or bar even in challenging light conditions.

The vaunted ZEISS Multifocal Portrait mode also makes a return here from five different modes – 23mm for landscape portraits, 35mm for narrative portraits, 50mm for classic portrait shots, 85mm for close up half body portrait shots and 100mm for close-up portraits. You also get their unique Aura Light mode that in tandem with the Aura Light flash mimics the dramatic Rembrandt lighting style, Film style and also an Aura Low Light Portraiture setting.

In daylight and brightly lit conditions, the vivo X200 FE performed in an exemplary fashion with consistent colour rendition across the 8MP ultrawide and 50MP main and 50MP telephoto cameras with excellent detail from the main camera and telephoto camera out to 6X lossless zoom though the ultrawide camera understandably lacks detail when you pixel peep and zoom in up close though it’s otherwise more than sufficient for scenery shots and social media use.

The algorithms do a good job of salvaging excellent detail here for scenery shots, especially those of architecture and greenery surprisingly out to 100x zoom but more detailed shots like that of people or crowds tend to look softer but it’s not a deal breaker.

Low light performance is surprisingly good, with all three cameras able to salvage a good amount of detail and colour in dim light within looking overly saturated at ultrawide, 1x and all the way out to 6x lossless zoom though details start getting soft beyond this and in dim light,  everything beyond that out to 100x zoom only allows for broad details with finer aspects like facial features rendered in very broad strokes though scenery shots do very well.

The Stage mode also excelled, capturing good shots of a pair of performers on stage doing their thing with a good level of detail even with enthusiastic hand and head movements throughout their performance.

For video performance, our vivo X200 FE review sample offered smooth footage with lifelike hues and good detail in both daylight and lowlight with best results if you stick to the main camera. Selfie shots up front offered great skin tones and good detail. All in all, the phone is a solid performer for both videos and stills in a very compact package.

Should you buy the vivo X200 FE?

The vivo X200 FE is a well polished compact flagship that maximises endurance, camera quality and performance while ensuring a durable IP68 and IP69 rated chassis with some resistance to drops and scratches.
