Android 7.0 Nougat update comes to Moto Z phones for Malaysia
If you own a Lenovo Moto Z phone, you’re in luck as they’re rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update just about now to your phone. With Android Nougat on the Moto Z, users can expect several major improvements to their phone including Daydream VR support; assuming you have the headset and controller that is. On top of general aesthetic and usability improvements, Android Nougat brings about the following major feature upgrades:
Improved multitasking
One of the key benefits of Nougat is the realisation of that elusive dream everyone with a smartphone has: doing two things at the same time. Nougat enables that with multi-window views on the Moto Z so you can browse the web in one window and chat on Whatsapp in the other. Not all apps support it though most of the most popular ones do.
Streamlined Notifications
Having a crapload of app notifications appear and having to run through each one is a right royal chore. On Nougat, notifications from the same app are grouped together. You can also directly reply to notifications even from within an app so you don’t get distracted.
Better battery life
One of the key benefits is enhanced Doze Mode that will help put unused apps to sleep to save on battery life so you ought to experience enhanced endurance on the Moto Z after you get the Nougat update.
Data Savings
The Nougat update on the Moto Z enables a Data Saver mode that disables mobile data usage for apps running in the background to prevent unnecessary usage and help save on data for more important stuff like watching cat videos.
Customisable Quick Settings
Nougat allows you to customise your quick settings bar as you so desire without too much fuss so you can arrange important stuff that you use the most like Wi-Fi, Data and Bluetooth on the first bar and less important ones later.
Launched late last year, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play phones came with a novel concept: a rear backplate that could accept a variety of snap-on rear backplate that could expand their functionality in different ways depending on what backplate you added to it. Depending on how deep your pockets go, you can one of half a dozen different backplates.
The JBL SoundBoost Speaker backplate added a pair of 3W speakers on the back. A Hasselblad True Zoom backplate added a 12-MP camera with a BSI CMOS sensor for serious camera work. Another backplate added a pico projector to the phone while the Incipio backplate added a 2,200mAh battery pack for extended battery life to the phone. The idea here is that you can mix and match features to get what you need. Moto Z Play owners can expect the Nougat 7.0 update later in February.
