Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED at CES 2022 is an amazing foldable 17 inch tablet/laptop hybrid

2022 is the year of foldable devices as manufacturers are delving out beyond the usual safe form factors to experiment with the full potential of foldable displays and the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is their latest design that will likely see service later this year after its debut at CES 2022. 

What is the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED

Their CES 2022 launch event, dubbed the ‘Incredible Unfolds’ certainly fits the bill with the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED taking centre stage at the virtual launch. Essentially a giant 17.3-inch tablet that can fold in half, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED’s key benefit is that it offers a humongous display in a compact form factor that’s half its size.

In effect, you’re getting a massive 17-inch 2.5K resolution touchscreen display with a 4:3 aspect ratio that can fold inwards to create two 12.5-inch Full HD 3:2 aspect ratio touchscreen displays depending on your usage scenario. 

The displays are colour calibrated so they’re all Pantone validated, have certified 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut reproduction and have TUV Rheinland certification for eye care which makes them ideal for content creators.

While the possibility of using a virtual on-screen keyboard is indeed viable with the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, Asus is also shipping it with a full-sized Asus ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard that has 1.4mm key travel and a touchpad.

Based on renders of its design, you’re able to deploy it flat in its full dimensions like a normal albeit massive tablet, fold it in half like a traditional laptop form factor with a virtual keyboard or employ the keyboard to use the tablet much like an all-in-one PC.

Under the hood, Asus states that the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will have 12th Gen Intel Core i7 U-series CPUs, Intel Iris X graphics, up to 16GB RAM, 1TB of storage and Intel Evo certification. The laptop will feature two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports for charging its 75Wh battery and for connecting to external displays.

Other mod-cons include a quad-speaker with Harman Kardon certification and a HD IR camera with Windows Hello biometrics.
