Digi expands nationwide coverage and on new MRT network via network expansion and 900Mhz spectrum
Digi has been constantly striving to expand the breadth, depth and strength of their coverage and their recent activation of the 900Mhz low frequency spectrum that was activated starting this July will act as the linchpin of their vision to offer total connectivity throughout Malaysia.
Currently, Digi’s network encompasses the 1,800Mhz, 2,600Mhz and the recently activated 900Mhz spectrum. To date, Digi’s 4G network reaches 86% of Malaysians in 295 cities and towns while the faster LTE-Advanced network covers 45% of populated areas in Malaysia across 80 towns and cities. The new 900Mhz spectrum currently has 15% coverage nationwide across 51 towns and cities.
Of particular note is that the new 900Mhz spectrum allows for better signal strength for indoors usage and wider coverage.
“We listen to what our customers want and indoor coverage is an area of improvement. With the 900Mhz spectrum, we are confident of serving our customers better whether they are in the comfort of their living rooms or at work in office buildings,” said Digi’s Chief Technology Officer, Kesavan Sivabalan.
Digi also shared more about their efforts at providing superior coverage on the new spur of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line even when underground and worked closely with MRT Corp to ensure consistent connectivity across the new line for subscribers. This was borne out via an extensive field test where invited guests field tested the quality and speed of the network to stream YouTube videos, browse the internet and even game too in the underground sections of the MRT network with excellent results.
