Galaxy Unpacked 2025- Revamped Galaxy Z Flip7 and new Galaxy Z Flip7 FE – These are the Flips you are looking for
Samsung did not disappoint at their latest Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, revealing a massively upgraded, slimmer yet wider Galaxy Z Fold7 as well as the latest incarnation of their Flip series phones for a mainstream audience – the Galaxy Z Flip7 as well as the surprise addition of a budget flip phone the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. We managed to get our hands on them at an early preview – here’s our thoughts and initial impressions on these two new additions to Samsung’s foldable line-up.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 – Bigger screen, better cameras and AI but with Exynos chipsets
Samsung has retained the design DNA of the Flip series with the new Galaxy Z Flip7 while maximising its capabilities and features such that the new phone would still be immediately recognisable as the successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip6, with the new design notably featuring a larger cover display that almost encompasses the entirety of the front cover display as well as a larger main display and a slightly larger battery.

When compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is slightly heavier by 1g than the older Galaxy Z Flip6 at 188g on account of the larger battery crammed into the chassis but is slightly thinner at 6.5mm unfolded and 13.7mm when folded down. Like the Galaxy Z Fold7, the Flip7 also uses an ArmorFlex Hinge with a new water droplet design and multi-rail structure to evenly disperse stress and protect display integrity.

The most distinctive aspect of the Galaxy Z Flip7 is its larger front 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow that covers almost everything except the camera housings and which has slim 1.25mm thin bezels while offering up 1,048 x 948 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,600 nits peak brightness. The older Flip6 only maxed out with a much smaller 3.4-inch FlexWindow display. To keep the front display protected, Samsung has sheathed it in Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 while the chassis uses Armor Aluminum.
The dual front cameras which can double up for selfie cameras too have been otherwise unchanged from its predecessor with a primary 50MP camera that has optical image stabilisation and lossless 2x zoom along with a 12MP ultra wide angle camera.
This time around, the cameras feature an upgraded version of Samsung’s ProVisual Engine and are capable of capturing 10-bit HDR videos which offer four times richer colour expression than the prior Galaxy Z Flip6. The cameras also have a few quality of life updates including a zoom slider integrated into the interface on the FlexWindow itself when the camera are in use as well as an Auto Zoom mode so that the cameras can offer hands-free shots.
Combined with its hinge mechanism and now massive front cover display, the Galaxy Z Flip7’s dual camera array can functionally handle standard imaging duties and also offer better selfies and video calls too by simply propping it up on its hinge.

Flipping the Galaxy Z Flip7 open reveals a slightly larger 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2,520 x 1080 pixels resolution, a 120hz refresh rate and 2,600 nits peak brightness whereas the older Flip6 maxed out with a 6.7-inch display. The selfie camera camera for the main folding display is otherwise unaltered and is still a 10MP sensor inset into a punch hole.

Rather than the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy of the Galaxy Z Fold7, the Galaxy Z Flip7 instead opts for Samsung’s own flagship Exynos 2500 chipset paired with 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB storage options. Like the Fold7, the Flip7 runs the latest Android 16 and is one of the first phones to do so paired with OneUI 8 as well as a guaranteed 7 years of OS and security updates.

Beyond the larger screen and different chipset, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7’s biggest upgrade is its battery with a 4,300mAh dual-cell this time around that’s larger than the Flip6’s 4,000mAh battery. This is paired with 25W wired charging as well as fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. The phone also features fast WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 but no UWB. In terms of available colourways, Samsung is offering the Galaxy Z Flip7 in Blue Shadow, Jet Black and Coral Red as well as an online-exclusive Mint.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE
While the grapevine did hint on a budget design coming for Galaxy Unpacked 2025, it’s an interesting surprise to see Samsung issue an affordable foldable to entice those who have yet to commit to the form factor with the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE.

Essentially a Galaxy Z Flip6 in all but name, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE has a similar 3.4-inch 60Hz Super AMOLED cover display protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and a main 6.7-inch FHD+ main Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz folding display while retaining the same 187g weight and thickness as the Flip6 as well as Armor Aluminum for the chassis.
The imaging setup is similar as well with a 50MP main camera that has OIS and a secondary 12MP ultra wide angle camera and a 10MP selfie camera inset into a punch hole. Even the battery is similar with a 4,000mAh cell complemented by 25W wired charging, fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE has dimensions akin to the Flip6 but uses an Exynos 2400 and 8GB RAM with either 128GB or 256Gb storage
To keep costs down though, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE differs in that it uses an inhouse Exynos 2400 processor and uses just 8GB RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of non-expandable storage. The phone also runs on the latest Android 16 with OneUI 8 and a guaranteed 7 years of OS and security updates.

Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip7, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE only has two colourways – Black or White for you to choose from. Again, there’s no official pricing details or availability yet from Samsung Malaysia but we’ll keep you posted.
