When it comes to tough phones, Honor puts their money where their mouth is with their midrange X9 series which are toughened to absurd degrees of durability that enable them to shrug off drops and even be used as hammers to drive nails into wood.
Their latest addition to the line-up, the Honor X9c 5G is a refreshed, upgunned successor to last year’s popular X9b and has a smattering of hardware updates and notably enhanced resistance to damage. Ahead of its official launch, we got our hands on a sample for field testing – here’s our Honor X9c unboxing and first look

The Honor X9c is the successor to last year’s Honor X9b and has a number of improvements all around with the notable inclusion of a larger 6,600mAh battery that also has 66W wired fast charging. The Honor X9c also has an improved IP65M rating with the M suffix indicating that it can survive high pressure jets of water from all directions.
In terms of hardware upgrades, the phone notably has a 6.78-inch curved OLED 120Hz display that’s is crisper and brighter than its predecessor, has eye protection features and absurdly good durability with an SGS Five Star Comprehensive Reliability Certification rating that allows it to shrug off a water blaster that can cut watermelons, survive repeated 2 metre drops and even allow it to be used as a hammer too.

The rear has a dual camera setup with a 108MP F/1.8 main camera that now has OIS which its predecessor lacked and a secondary 5MP ultrawide angle camera while the front hosts a single 16MP selfie camera.
Honor X9c unboxing and first look – What’s in the box?
For units sold in Malaysia, Honor has thrown in a generous array of kit. Out of the box with our Honor X9c first look sample, you get the phone itself with a preapplied screen protector on the display which is rather quaint seeing the fact that the display is already so durable.
In addition, Honor has also bundled in a soft TPU screen protector custom-fitted to the phone, a USB C cable, the obligatory SIM pin ejector, a quick start manual and a fast 66W charger with a UK-style plug for local use.
All these accessories offer exceptional value for Honor’s midrange phone though there’s no confirmation as to its official price in Malaysia. At launch last year, the Honor X9b retailed for RM1,499 and it’s likely that the new Honor X9c will retail at or around this price point. What is confirmed thus far is that the Honor X9c will come in Titanium Purple, Jade Cyan and Titanium Black colourways.
