HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review – AMD Ryzen AI 5 340-Powered Convertible with Copilot+ Support Tested

The convertible laptop remains one of the most enduring and popular form factors for mobile workers. It combines a laptop, tablet, and display into a single slim design which is precisely what HP’s latest AMD Ryzen™ 300 series-powered OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 offers.

We were graciously issued a sample for review and after taking it for a whirlwind work tour out of town and on our regular commute, here’s our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 where we determine if it is worth your money.

OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review – Build and Design

A mobile worker’s productivity is dependent on the tech that they employ. Be that as it may, technology workers and other professionals in this day and age simply can’t rely on a laptop alone.

Many work-related tasks expected of mobile workers today often require the use of a display for presentations. Even portable designs are large, clunky and heavy affairs. Often, tasks that require handwriting or touch input such as signing off on annotating digital documents require a tablet which is a separate device adding bulk and weight.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review copilot

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review – The convertible is rated for Copilot+ which allows access to several highly useful features

On top of the need to tote around extra gear, mobile workers also face the challenge that the many technologies and devices in use today often rely on differing standards and different ports beyond the usual USB- and USB-C ports, necessitating the need to carry multiple dongles and cables.

Enter the HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 – a slim 14-inch convertible laptop that seamlessly combines the capabilities of a laptop, a reverse-oriented display, a tablet and a tent-style display into one svelte form factor that is just 14.9mm thin while weighing 1.39kg.

This transformational ability is primarily on account of its 360-degree hinges. Beyond its standard laptop mode, the hinges enable you to flip the design around to turn it into a free-standing display and completely around such that it becomes a Windows tablet complete with a stylus. Fortunately, the stylus comes bundled with the convertible.

Beyond its versatile design, HP’s latest convertible stands out from the competition with Copilot+ AI assistant support. This is possible on account of the beefy AMD Ryzen™ AI 5 340 processor, which integrates a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS of performance for AI-related tasks.

Other variants and configurations exist with different panels, processors, storage and RAM in other regions but for Malaysia, there’s only one configuration available for sale.

On closer inspection, our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample is well appointed with a build and finish in keeping with a laptop intended for corporate environments.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review top lid

The top lid is made of aluminium with an understated gunmetal grey finish and the HP logo emblazoned in the centre. There’s minimal flex or play even on the edges of the top lid and the whole affair is impeccably premium indeed.

Flipping the lid open reveals a generously sized touchpad and a keyboard tray complete with a Copilot shortcut key made of polycarbonate done up in matching tones as the top lid. The backlit lattice-less keyboard is done up in a lighter shade of grey. This isn’t just for show as the keyboard integrates a measure of post-consumer recycled plastic in its design.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review keyboard

The display used in our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample is a 14-inch IPS LCD touch display with 1,900 x 1,200 pixels resolution with a tall 16:10 aspect ratio that is rated for up to 400 nits and offers 62.5% sRGB colour gamut. Seeing as it doubles as a tablet, the display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for improved resistance to scratches and nicks.

Up top, the convertible comes with a 5MP IR camera with noise reduction and a dual-array digital microphone. Beyond mere hardware, HP has also integrated their Poly Camera Pro software which allows for a variety of video effects including custom backgrounds and customised overlays for a more professional look.

The side bezels are wonderfully thin though the top and bottom bezels are a bit on the thick side though this is necessary from a design perspective. The top needs to be thicker to accommodate the camera with the bottom bezel necessary to accommodate the hinge mechanism.

When it comes to I/O, HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 covers all the essentials. The right side comes with a USB Type-A port with 10Gbps data transfer and a headphone/microphone combo jack.

The left side comes with another USB Type-A port that also offers 10Gbps data transfer speeds, a HDMI 2.1 port and two USB Type-C ports with USB power delivery, DisplayPort 2.1 and ‘HP Sleep and Charge’ functionality, allowing you to charge the laptop, output to a display and trickle-charge other connected devices like phones even when the laptop is off. Unfortunately, the laptop lacks a card reader but it’s not a deal breaker by any means.

The underside is otherwise unremarkable save for two slits for the downward firing stereo speakers tuned with DTS:X Ultra as well as HP Audio Boost for richer, more detailed sound.

There’s also not much point to popping the underside panel open as the RAM is soldered in and there’s only one storage expansion slot taken up by the existing 512GB SSD.

Out of the box, the HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 comes with a stylus, a 65W Type-C charging brick and it ships with a free copy of Microsoft Office Home 2024, a 1 year Office 365 Basic plan and a free backpack. This is a solid set of additional kit that lets mobile workers get started straight out of the box for word processing and spreadsheet crunching while also bundling in a free stylus too.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review – Performance and Benchmarks

In terms of hardware, our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample intended for Malaysia comes with the following hardware:

Price RM4,927.00
Display 14-inch multitouch-enabled IPS 2K LCD, 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, 3,400 nits peak brightness, 62.5% srGB, 16:10 aspect ratio, 89.58% screen-to-body ratio
Processor AMD Ryzen™ AI 5 340 4.8GHz
os Windows 11 Home
Memory 16GB LPDDR5X RAM/ 512GB Gen 4 NVMe M.2 SSD
Graphics AMD Radeon 840M
Battery 3-cell 59Wh Li-ion polymer battery w/ 65W USB Type-C charging
Size/Weight 313 x 218.5 x 14.6mm / 1.39kg

The AMD Ryzen™ AI 5 340 processor is of recent vintage and was launched earlier in 2025. Featuring 6 cores that consist of a trio of Zen 5 cores and a trio of Zen 5c cores and 12 threads, the AMD Ryzen™ AI 5 340 CPU has a base clock speed of 2.0GHz and a boost clock of up to 4.8GHz.

As mentioned earlier, the AMD Ryzen™ AI engine integrated into the chipset offers up to 50 TOPS, ensuring that the HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 is able to support the CoPilot+ AI assistant.

It also supports ray tracing for gaming via DirectX12 Ultimate for better looking lighting and reflections in supported games. This is paired with fast 16GB LPDDRX RAM and a 512GB Gen 4 NVMe M.2 SSD. Connectivity is solid with fast WiFi 6E and bluetooth 5.3 connectivity on demand.

Bearing in mind its intended role for mobile workers, the laptop is also rated as a Secured-core PC that features secure boot, a trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM) and a host of other security features to prevent tampering, the execution of potentially malicious code and protects the loss of critical data even if the laptop itself is compromised or stolen. To that end, it features Windows Hello biometric face sign-in though oddly, it lacks a fingerprint reader.

Combined, this hardware setup lends our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample a mission profile appropriately suited for mobile workers looking to get some general computing duties done on the go.

It’s unfortunately less than ideal for content creation as the touch screen isn’t fully colour calibrated and doesn’t offer the full 100% DCI-P3 nor does the overall hardware offer a sufficiently smooth experience for video editing.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review display

That quibble aside, the HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 shines in its chosen role as a highly versatile productivity platform. The ability to swap between laptop and tablet mode at will on the move meant that I could easily ditch carrying a tablet and a portable display around in the off-chance that I needed to do presentations or content requiring a touchscreen.

Beyond the capabilities expected of a laptop, our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample’s display mode came in handy when I wanted to watch Netflix binge or do a Powerpoint presentation.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review hinge

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review – The 360-degree hinge lets you deploy the convertible laptop into a display and into a Window tablet at will to meet any scenario

When deployed in tablet mode, the laptop proved handy for reading e-books and web browsing, while the bundled stylus was useful for jotting down handwritten notes. A suitably skilled artist can also get some sketching done too.

When plugged in and set to performance mode, our HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample got the following synthetic benchmarks:

3D Mark Speed Way 187
3D Mark Solar Bay 6,840
3D Mark Steel Nomad 165
3D Mark Steel Nomad Light 1,462
3D Mark Night Raid 18,466
3D Mark Time Spy Extreme 521
3D Mark Time Spy 1,793
Geekbench 6 Single Core 2,037
Geekbench 6 Multi Core 10.869
Geekbench 6 OpenCL 12,810
Geekbench 6 Vulkan 19,286
Cinebench 2024 CPU (Multi core) 470
Cinebench 2024 GPU (Single Core) 10 X 46.22 MP Ratio
PCMark 10 Work 3.0 Extended 5,670
2160P Video Playback ( 50% brightness)

In terms of overall performance and keeping in mind its intended role as a productivity platform, our  HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review unit acquitted itself in an admirable fashion. Spreadsheets, Microsoft Office documents and other paperwork ran smoothly and it was easily able to handle the usual round of web browsing and Netflix watching duties without issue.

It was also able to handle a bit of light photo editing and video editing on Canva and CapCut though this isn’t its intended purpose as the display isn’t fully colour calibrated so colours on content won’t look as they are originally intended to be.

Under heavy load in performance mode, the cooling fan does get a bit loud but it is only audible in a quiet location like a library. Heat is also well managed and the laptop gets slightly warm to the touch on the rear but is still comfortable to hold.

Colour accuracy aside, the display offered good clarity and brightness in indoors conditions for general usage – paperwork, casual web browsing, movie watching and the like –  and was sufficiently responsive enough that it was often easier to navigate websites using the touchscreen rather than the usual touchpad. Of note are the paired speakers that offer decent volume and clarity for conference calls and videos too.

Of note is the provided stylus that lets you notarise documents and makes navigation easier. It also lets skilled users use the display as a sketch pad of sorts.HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review movies

The ability to turn into a tent-style display or into a tablet on demand also came in handy in specific scenarios though by and large, it was mostly used as a laptop during our review period.

As a Copilot+ certified PC, the laptop was able to field the more sophisticated AI-related features including Live Captions with Translation which comes in handy when listening to foreign language content.

At present, the version we had for review only offered traditional and simplified Chinese as well as English output only for now with more languages slated to be available later on down the line though it was able to understand Japanese, Russian and Korean audio when we tested it.

HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 Review – With Live Captions with Translations feature, you’re able to enjoy translations from a variety of languages including Japanese, Korean and Russin into English and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese (for now)

It also featured a beta version of Recall that lets you find sites you’ve visited or content you’ve worked on more easily. There was also the option to use Cocreator in Paint to generate images in real time with natural language prompts.

There’s some useful applications on hand here, especially the Live Captions with Translation feature though your mileage may vary depending on how you use the laptop and your workflow.

What particularly impressed was its battery life and it was able to comfortably last through a full day of use with the usual productivity tasks with about 30% remaining at the end of the work day.

In a test where we looped a 2160p video at 50% brightness, our  HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 review sample was able to last a very respectable 9 hours and 14 minutes.

Should you buy the HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14?

The HP OmniBook X Flip Laptop 14 is a well built Copilot+ certified convertible laptop that offers good battery life and solid performance on account of its AMD Ryzen™ AI 5 340 processor for general computing tasks.
