Huawei and Leica set up joint-lab at Wetzlar, Germany
Huawei and Leica announced their alliance earlier this year with the first fruits of their team-up being the P9 and P9 Plus smartphone. Now, both parties have taken the next step in their collaborative effort by pooling their R&D assets and establishing the ‘Max Berek Innovation Lab’ based at Leica’s global HQ in Wetzlar, Germany. The new lab is named after Max Berek, the German pioneer of microscopy and the creator of the first Leica lenses.
Areas of research for the Max Berek Innovation lab include ‘optical systems and software-based technologies to improve imaging quality in a wide range of photographic and mobile device applications’. The lab will also explore the creation of augmented reality and virtual reality solutions.
