Moto launches G5S Plus and Moto X4 in Malaysia
Motorola’s G5S Plus which we had the opportunity to preview a while back is now officially available in Malaysia. Designed as a premium looking yet affordable workhorse phone, the G5S Plus has a 5.5-inch Full HD display up front and runs Android Nougat 7.1.1 on a Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
The G5S Plus’ rear camera is particularly interesting as it comes with a dual 13-MP camera array, both with an F/2.0 aperture and with one camera shooting in mono and the other in colour to take creamy bokeh snaps. Up front, the phone comes with an 8-MP selfie camera, an F/2.0 aperture and a dedicated LED flash. Power is provided by a 3,000mAh with the wohle affair encased in a unibody aluminium casing in your choice of either Luna Gray or Plush Gold for the Malaysia market. The G5S Plus will retail for RM999. At its price point, the G5S Plus looks like a very compelling proposition and puts it square against a host of entry level workhorse phones though its level of polish and its price tag does give it quite an edge.
Also announced for sale today was another phone dubbed the Moto X4 that looks exceptionally premium with a chassis hewn of glass and aluminium that also has IP68 water resistance thrown in for good measure. This means it can survive a dip in up to 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes which allows it to shrug off the odd sousing in water. In terms of hardware, the phone sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 2.2GHz ocatcore processor, 4GB RAM and more storage than the G5S Plus to the une of 64GB of expandable storage. The display is slightly smaller than the G5S Plus at 5.2-inches but is still a Full HD display.
The rear of the Moto X4 has a dual camera array though it differs from the setup on the G5S Plus as it has a 12-MP F/2.2 camera paired with an 8-MP F/2.4 camera with the former for up-close work and the latter for wide-angle shots along with a selective focus mode that lets you tweak the focus on the camera onscreen. The rear camera also has a landmark and object recognition function so you can point it at objects and locations of interest and, assuming you have data or wi-fi, will identify the object in question for you.The front sports a 16-MP selfie camera which also packs a dedicated LED flash. Another feature of note on the Moto X4 is a nifty authentication mode dubbed Moto Key that allows you to secure a laptop or a website login such as Facebook or your email via the phone and the fingerprint reader though this is limited to Windows laptops for now. The Moto X4 retails for RM1,899 and is available in Super Black and Sterling Blue.
Both the Moto X4 and G5S Plus are available nationwide from Motorola brand stores and authorised dealers nationwide as well as at Motorola’s official online store at Lazada Malaysia. Customers who purchase the G5S Plus on Lazada from 6 to 11 November also get free goodies as they’ll enjoy extended warranty protection for one extra year and a pair Motorola Pulse 2 on-ear headphones with the whole bundle worth RM587
