ASUS ROG Masters 2017 makes esports history
Across a thousand virtual battlefields in over three dozen countries, over 6,000 teams vied for the chance to participate in one of the world’s most lucrative and prestigious esports tournaments – the ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) Masters 2017.
The culmination of a host of online and offline tournaments across the globe, the ASUS ROG Masters saw its Grand Finals taking place in Malaysia where a dozen teams, who each have undergone a gruelling gauntlet of battles against all comers, take each other on in a winner-take-all match at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
No effort was spared to ensure that the event was one for the ages and the record books. A grand plenary hall that once saw some of the world’s most accomplished orchestras playing on its stage was converted into a grand arena complete with lighting and blazing fast ASUS ROG hardware for the players taking centre stage.
A series of team banners boldly emblazoned with each of the last dozen teams vying for the Grand Finals took pride of place flanking the stage fluttering in the frigid air conditioning of the plenary hall. At stake was a prize pool worth a massive US$250,000 for each title – DOTA 2 and CS:GO – for a grand total of a half million smackeroos along with bragging rights for years to come. Invited guests and fans packed the halls to the rafters, rapt in attention as the various teams pulled every tactic and trick in the book to win with the massed crowd cheering them on.
When the dust settled at dusk on the last day of the tournament, team Gambit Gaming emerged the ultimate champion, trumping team TyLoo with consistent performance and solid teamwork in CS:GO. In DOTA 2, OpTiC Gaming from the Americas and Team Empire from the EMEA squared off and after a series of stunning comebacks and hazard fraught plays, Team Empire emerged the winners.
After a triumphant ceremony where they were awarded their trophies, Derek Yu, ROG Strategic Division Director and Global Marketing Senior Director remarked,”From the inaugural year’s APAC-only tournament to this year’s worldwide events, ROG Masters has been incredibly successful in enabling seasoned pros and rising amateurs from all corners of the world to make their aspirations a reality and live their esports dreams. ROG Masters 2017 featured overwhelming participation, with over 6,000 teams competing – ten times more than the previous year – in a series of events hosted in over 35 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia. It’s truly a testament to our shared enthusiasm with the community and the brands commitment to esports.” For more on the ROG Masters and blow-by-blow reports, swing by their official site at www.rog-masters.com
