Sony’s new A series tellies serve up 4K HDR goodness in your living room
Sony’s recent convention at the Intercontinental Hotel in Malaysia transformed a series of ballrooms within the establishment into a veritable wonderland of tech as they showed off everything they had to offer across their entire product range from their Playstation VR headsets, their latest cameras, Xperia smartphones and more including a range of the latest gear they showcased at CES 2017. The crown jewel of the entire showcase though was centered around the launch of their BRAVIA OLED 4K HDR A1 series TVs.
The new A1 series TVs come in 65-inch and 55-inch sizes and, as you’d likely surmise from their nomenclature, incorporate 4K OLED panels beefed up by Sony’s usual array of image enhancement tech such as their Triluminos imaging tech for more realistic colour reproduction, their 4K X-Reality Pro imaging tech for crisper, more detailed images onscreen and their 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme engine that incorporates a trio of sub-technologies together to offer vivid 4K HDR viewing oncreen. Like many recent generation tellies, the A1 series comes with Dolby Vision support to enjoy rich HDR content.
What makes the TV rather novel is that it comes with what Sony refers to as Acoustic Surface Tech that makes the sound resonate from the entire screen rather than directionally from the usual fixed speakers for more vivid audio. Powering the whole affair is Android TV OS which makes it easy to navigate and enjoy content.
The 65-inch A1 series TV retails for RM29,999 while the 55-inch variant is priced at RM16,999 and will be available from June onwards in Malaysia.
The convention also saw Sony releasing their X-series 4K HDR LED TVs that incorporate many of the same technologies like their 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme engine and Triluminos Display tech into panels that come in a variety of sizes and price ranges.
The 75-inch X94E series 4K HDR TV retails for RM25,999 while the X93E retails for RM11,999. The X85E series comes in 75-inch and 65-inch sizes with the former retailing for RM16,999 and the latter at RM9999. If what you want is the biggest thing that can display 4K HDR imagery, you’ll need their mammoth 100-inch Z9D 4K HDR LED series TV that is as massive as it is impressive though there was no price tag attached to it as yet at the convention.
