Huawei’s MateBook hits stores in Malaysia, costs RM3,999
Unveiled at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, Huawei’s first take on a hybrid notebook dubbed the Huawei MateBook had tech pundits staring at it with admiring gazes as it had PC-grade hardware along with the looks, svelteness and form factor of a tablet to angle it as a credible contender to the Surface Pro 4. It’s lighter at 640g and slimmer too at 6.9mm compare to the heftier and chunkier Surface Pro 4. Interested? Excellent. Here’s the good part – the Huawei MateBook is hitting stores in Malaysia starting tomorrow.
Crammed into the MateBook’s slim 6.9mm thin casing is a 6th gen Intel Core M 3.1GHz processor, a lush 12-inch 2,160 x 1,440 pixel resolution touchscreen, up to 8GB RAM and up to a 512GB SSD. Rather than a flip-out kickstand like the Surface Pro, the MateBook has a full sized backlit wireless keyboard that latches onto the MateBook and which also acts as a cover and kickstand. It also sports a USB Type-C port for charging and docking duties along with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Locally, the Matebook will come in three subvariants designated the M3, M5 and M7. All three variants have a similar Intel Core M processor, will run Windows 10, come bundled with the Huawei keyboard cover and are otherwise similar to each other bar differences in RAM and storage.
The M3 variant retails for RM3,999 and will come with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. The M5 will retail for RM5,399 and pack 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. The top of the line M7 variant comes with 8GB RAM and a whopping 512GB SSD for RM6,699. The three variants will have a staggered release with the M3 arriving in stores tomorrow on Saturday. The M5 and M7 variant will arrive later on though they have not confirmed when at press time.
Additional accessories are available but sold separately with the Huawei MatePen stylus costing RM369, the Huawei MateDock costing RM399 and even the Huawei keyboard cover as well, on the off-chance you need a replacement. It costs RM499 on its own.
The new MateBook and accessories are available at Huawei’s online store at vmall.my though if you want a hands-on with the MateBook, you can swing by any of Huawei’s Experience Stores nationwide to try it out for yourself and buy it too. The Huawei Matebook M3 comes in your choice of either a black casing and keyboard with gray trim or in white with gold trim and a brown hued keyboard.
