New LEGO Gaming sets for Minecraft, Super Mario, Animal Crossing and Fortnite bring gaming worlds to life
Talk to any seasoned gamer about the games they like and you’ll likely encounter some of the greats – virtual worlds and experiences where gamers can send months if not a lifetime exploring and playing in – Minecraft, Super Mario World, Animal Crossing, Fortnite…the list goes on.
While these virtual gaming worlds are immersive affairs, they’re also not real – until now that is as LEGO are finally bringing these virtual worlds with an array of LEGO Gaming sets for the Malaysia market.
Making their debut in Malaysia are an array of LEGO Minecraft, LEGO Super Mario, LEGO Animal Crossing and LEGO Fortnite sets. As you’d surmise, they’re all universally compatible seeing as they’re all made of LEGO which means your ultimate crossover dreams are just a LEGO brick away from coming true. Here’s some of the most interesting sets across all these properties that caught our eye
LEGO Minecraft – Ender Dragon and End Ship (21264), Wolf Stronghold (21261) and Frog House (21256)
Table of Contents
The blocky nature of LEGO and Minecraft the game are a match made in heaven as both of these properties synergise with each other perfectly which is why the LEGO Minecraft series is here. On top of numerous play opportunities, the LEGO Minecraft sets also offer quite a few unit figures and designs especially for collectors.
For those who have already gone to the end game, the LEGO Minecraft The Ender Dragon and End Ship (21264) that’s only encountered in the End biome is the ultimate way to keep a memento of the end game on your desk.
The Ender Dragon itself has movable and adjustable limbs, an egg to play with and looks just like the ingame model. The End Ship is also fully kitted out with health potions and a brewing stand too. The kit also gets you an Enderman, an Ember Knight, a Skulker and an Ender Explorer figure too.
In Malaysia, this set retails for RM399 and is a fairly large kit and is rated for over 8-year-old kids though it may be a daunting large project for a single child seeing as it has 657 pieces. This kit would be ideal for building with a parent and a child together over the weekend.
For something a bit smaller and more manageable, the Minecraft Frog House (21256) playset takes place in a swamp biome with the set’s 400 pieces making it a comfortable set to assign for a solo full day build for a younger LEGO builder or as a weekend day project with a parent.
As you’d surmise, the Frog House has you building a large frog-shaped house that acts as a very well equipped house for a Minecrafter with a crafting table, bed, furnace, chest and other gear. Alongside the Frog House, the set has space for a small farm and blue tiles that mimic a lake.
There’s also a fun assortment of kit including a Swamp Explorer figure, a slime microfig, a trio of ultra cute frog microfigs, a Zombie and a Drowned minifig too. In Malaysia, this set retails for RM249.90 and combined with its playability makes for a fun middle ground.
Another interesting LEGO Minecraft playset of note is the Wolf Stronghold (21261) that retails for RM149.90 with 312 pieces and is a compact but surprisingly full-featured set with a lot of play potential.
The Wolf Stronghold is built around a house themed around the same name that has an alternate headpiece that can be swapped out to turn it from a friendly looking wolf-shaped visage to something much fiercer.
When viewed from within, the stronghold has a crafting table, smithing table, anvil and blast furnace. For additional play potential, the set has a pair of skeleton bowmen, a pair of wolves and a Wolf tamer complete with sword.
LEGO Gaming – LEGO Super Mario Bowser Express Train (71437) and Adventures with Interactive LEGO Mario (71439)
These two notable sets from the LEGO Super Mario collection stand out for playability and fun potential. The LEGO Super Mario Bowser Express Train has a lot of interactivity with a lever-operated spinning platform, a Super Star Block for temporary invincibility, a passenger wagon and a ? block along with a spring-loaded cannon too. It’s a bit on the high side at RM629.90 but the interactivity, complexity and potential fun of the kit make up for it.
Offering even further creativity and playability is the Adventures with Interactive LEGO Mario that has a LEGO mario figure that can interact with the other items in the kit, a Bowser Kr. figure, a Goomba, a Yoshi and the eponymous clown car.
Kids can array and align the elements of the playset to create their own LEGO Super Mario level. It’s also compatible with other similar LEGO Super Mario sets too. At RM219.90, it’s a fun, highly playable set for fans and those young at heart alike.
LEGO Gaming – LEGO Animal Crossing Nook’s Cranny and Rosie’s House (77050)
One of the surprise smash hit games in the last few years, Animal Crossing was both accessible and fun for young and old alike as they sought to build up their own island with collectibles and other kit. Every gamer starts off at Tom Nook the raccoon’s shop to purchase essential items for their island and the playset offers that experience too including a rare Tom Nook minifig.
The set also includes Rosie the Cat’s house complete with a Rosie minifig that also has a ton of familiar items from the game. Featuring 535 bricks for LEGO builders aged 7 and above and priced at RM439.90, it’s a premium set but has a ton of replayability and for collectors, potential value too seeing the rarity of the bundled minifigs.
LEGO Gaming – LEGO Fortnite Battle Bus (77073)
When it comes to battle royale games where a bunch of players duke it out in a diminishing arena until only one stands triumphant, Fortnite is arguably one of the most enduring, most popular of the genre and continues to be played today.
Every match begins with players entering the arena in the Fortnite Battle Bus, which makes this particular LEGO Fortnite set special for sheer nostalgia value. The detailed set has everything including the hot air balloon on top, the school bus looking chassis along with a ton of playable accessories and details that also include nine LEGO minifigures too, all of which can be seated on the bus ready to hop into the next match. At RM379.90.
This is one of the most desirable LEGO Gaming sets for 2024, more so for the fact that it’s from the Fortnite franchise.
LEGO Gaming – LEGO Sonic the Hedgehod Super Sonic vs Egg Drillster (76999)
The titular speedy hedgehog finally makes the leap to LEGO and features a variant of the eponymous speedster himself as a minifig, specifically the Super Sonic variant. The set also includes an Egg Drillster car with a rotating drill bit as well as a lab with a breakable wall. You also get Shadow, Dr. Eggman, a Pocky, a Pecky a Egg Pawn Badnik and a Gun Wing minifig too for a ton of playability. In Malaysia, this set retails for RM419.90.
In Malaysia, the LEGO Super Mario, LEGO Minecraft and LEGO Animal Crossing sets are available at LEGO Certified stores, major retailers as well as the LEGO Official stores on Lazada and Shopee though the LEGO Fortnite sets are a bit more elusive and are only available at LEGO Certified stores and at LEGOLAND Malaysia.
