New Magic the Gathering Foundations collection is the perfect way to get started new players

For a newcomer to Magic the Gathering, the prospect of even getting started in the game is a daunting one with the sheer number of cards, potential combinations and intricate rules set through the years worth of cards to collect from prior sets is arguably the biggest stumbling block.

To meet the needs of new players, WOTC have issued the new Magic the Gathering Foundations set that acts as a  foundational set for new players.

What is Magic the Gathering Foundations set?

Essentially, the collection is a comprehensive set to get newcomers started on the game. Including a prebuilt starter collections that help players get a playable set to not get instantly squished in a friendly match along with the obligatory array of Play and Collector Boosters.

In terms of cards, the set offers 70 borderless cards including special varnish treatment Eclipse mana Foil cards, Special Guest cards from popular artists and Japan Showcase cards with 51 new and old variants in Collector boosters as well as Anime-style cards in each Foundations Jumpstart pack.

To be specific, the new Magic the Gathering Foundations has the following on top of Play and Collector boosters:

• The Beginner Box is where the journey begins! This includes all the essentials for a quintessential Magic experience, including two different decks with hands-on guided play, a reference booklet, special Foundations playmats and bonus packs for easy jump-in play with a friend.

• The Starter Collection is the best entry point for collectors! This box contains over 350 staple cards for all colours and playstyles to bolster both beginner and expert- level decks, containing tutorials and expert recommendations.

• Foundations Jumpstart Boosters for instant play. All it takes to build a deck is to shuffle two together, and with a themed collection of 20 cards for Foundations, the combinations are limitless!
• Play Boosters and Collector Boosters for delving deeper into Foundations and discovering all that Magic has to offer. Whether it’s drafting packs with friends using Play Boosters or pulling the most stunning art cards exclusively from Collector Boosters, players will be able to expand their collection in style.
