Razer Basilisk Mobile Review – The Ultimate Travel Mouse for Work and Play?

The Razer Basilisk series remains one of their most popular gaming mice line-ups. There still remained one pickle though with the Basilisk series – it’s just not very portable and its chunky design made it a pain to pack in a backpack. Enter the Razer Basilisk Mobile.

Launched alongside the Razer Joro gaming keyboard, the Razer Basilisk Mobile is a fun-sized version of the Basilisk series gaming mouse that also fulfills a similar role as a highly portable gaming peripheral.

After using it extensively as a daily carry mouse over the course of the last several weeks, here’s our Razer Basilisk Mobile review where we share if this compact gaming mouse is worth what you pay for.

Razer Basilisk Mobile Review – Build and Design

Much like the Razer Joro keyboard, the Razer Basilisk Mobile is intended as a highly compact gaming mouse made to take up a minimal footprint while maximising features and performance while being small enough to toss into a backpack. In this regard, the Basilisk Mobile looks like a scaled down version of the V3 Pro model with its signature thumb rest and arched back.

At first blush, our Razer Basilisk Mobile review unit is physically smaller than the full-sized models, though there’s no compromise in features.

The mouse itself weighs just 77g with a footprint that’s about two thirds the size of a Pro model. The mouse retains Razer’s signature matte black finish though it is far more understated than its larger siblings with only the Razer logo on the top featuring RGB lighting rather than the usual characteristic strips of RGB Chroma lighting embellishing the entire body. This works in its favour, helping to conserve battery life.

Connectivity options are top notch with options for wired connectivity via the bundled USB-A to USB-C cable, wirelessly with Bluetooth 5.0 and also via the provided HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4GHz.

Belying its size, the mouse has 10 programmable buttons that use their third-generation optical mouse switches that are rated for over 90,000,000 clicks with 0.2ms actuation speeds and which can be remapped via their Razer Synapse 4 app.

The app also allows for HyperShift support, allowing you to map a secondary function on each button to effectively double the number of possible actions on the mouse. Of note is that the mouse is capable of saving up to five profiles for convenient use on the go.

In terms of design, our Razer Basilisk Mobile review sample has the obligatory left and right mouse buttons and a central HyperScroll tilt wheel that allows for four-way scrolling with the option to swap between a fast-moving free-spin mode for doom scrolling and a more nuanced, clicker tactile cycling mode. Just behind the scroll wheel is a scroll-type select button.

The left side of the mouse features a widened area that acts as a thumb rest as well as a trio of buttons aligned in a row just above the thumb rest with the rearmost button mapped by default as an AI Prompt Master shortcut to summon your default AI assistant.

Flipping the mouse over reveals a set of PTFE coated feet that ensure a smooth gliding experience as well as a Razer Focus X 18K optical sensor with up to 18,000 DPI and 99.4% resolution accuracy. Also present is the HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4GHz dongle inset into a slot in the base.

Overall build quality is excellent and even when firmly held, it didn’t so much as creak while the PTFE feet glided smoothly across a variety of surfaces from wood to marble without issue.

The mouse also ships with a braided USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and wired connectivity though it would have been nice to have had a USB-C to USB-C connection seeing as many ultraportable laptops lack a USB-A port these days but it’s not a deal breaker as you can still buy a third party cable like that from UGreen to handily solve the problem.

Razer Basilisk Mobile Review – Performance

Getting our Razer Basilisk Mobile review unit up and running is as easy as it gets. It gets recognised instantly if you opt for the wired connection and opting for Bluetooth or the HyperSpeed dongle is just as fast.

While it works straight out of the box, you’ll need to install and run Razer’s Synapse 4 app for Windows and MacOS to allow you to reassign the buttons, create macro shortcuts and assign HyperShift secondary modes for each button. When tested, the mouse was easily able to pair up to a Windows laptop, a Galaxy Z Fold7 and a Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra without issue.

When tested, the mouse proved to be exceptionally comfortable with most of the weight resting on the thumb rest and palm. Connectivity was excellent and the Basilisk Mobile had no input lag across wired, Bluetooth and HyperSpeed connectivity options when subjected to gaming in Black Ops 6 and 7 and reams of paperwork.

On paper, the Basilisk Mobile is rated for up to 180 hours of battery life if paired with Bluetooth and up to 105 hours of use with their HyperSpeed dongle. With a wired connection, which is also used for charging, it can run indefinitely.

Over the course of testing, actual endurance figures match these numbers. Using Bluetooth, our Razer Basilisk Mobile review sample was easily able to last a week with about 8 hours of usage daily for a combination of typing, web browsing and gaming.

What made it particularly appealing was how compact it was as it was small enough to fit in a backpack for daily carry with my offsite work setup. The week-long battery life was a bonus as well, allowing for a fuss free work week.
