New budget flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 FE debuts in Malaysia priced from RM3,299
Alongside the flagship Galaxy S24 series line-up, Samsung has returned to their regular schedule of releasing a budget flagship alongside their mainline marquee phones with the Galaxy S24 FE this year that succeeds last year’s Galaxy S23 FE budget flagship.
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE specs
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE visually resembles the base Galaxy S24 but has a few concessions in terms of specifications to keep the price tag down though it otherwise has the full-fledged Galaxy AI experience of its larger siblings including Circle to Search with Google, Live Translate, Samsung Note Assist and interpreter support . The Galaxy S24 FE also gets the fun Galaxy AI stuff too including Generative Edit to move objects seamlessly in images, Portrait Studio to reimagine sketches and art in new ways and more.
The front gets a larger 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X FHD+ display that is larger than the S23 FE has 1,200 nits peak brightness and has 19% slimmer bezels all around. The display also has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ and uses a normal aerospace-grade aluminium chassis unlike the Armor Aluminium in the higher end Galaxy S24 series though it does have IP68 dust and water resistance.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S24 FE uses the Exynos 2400e processor built on a 4nm process which is a slightly slower variant of the Exynos 2400 that saw service in the base Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Plus. To keep it cool, the processor also gets a slightly larger by 1.1x vapour chamber that’s 11% bigger than the one used in the S23 FE.
The Galaxy S24 FE’s Exynos 2400e CPU is paired with 8GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB storage variants. As par for a Samsung Galaxy phone, there’s also the option to add virtual RAMPlus random access memory assigned off the onboard storage.
While a 128GB storage variant does exist for the Galaxy S24 FE, what is certain is that Malaysia won’t get the smallest storage variant. Keeping the phone juiced is a slightly larger 4.700mAh battery that’s bigger by 200mAh with 25W wired fast charging. It also has wireless charging and reverse wireless charging too.
For imaging, the Galaxy S24 FE has a 50MP F/1.8 main camera with OIS, a 12MP F/2.2 ultra wide angle camera and an 8MP telephoto with 3x telephoto zoom and OIS with the front featuring a 10MP F/2.4 selfie camera.
In terms of the software experience, the Galaxy S24 FE will ship with OneUI 6.1 and up with a guaranteed 7 years of OS and security updates along with full access to all the Galaxy AI features of the Galaxy S24 series including interactivity and compatibility with the full features of the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra and Buds3 Pro.
The Galaxy S24 FE also has, for the first time in the FE series, SuperHDR and Instant Slow-Mo capability for the rear camera for superior stills even in low light for the former and bullet-time for the latter for videos.
For Malaysia, the Galaxy S24 FE will come with either 256GB or 512GB storage variants and your choice of Blue, Grey, Mint, Graphite colourways with the 256GB version priced at RM3,299 and the 512GB version priced at RM3,899 and will be available to order in Malaysia starting from 11.00PM MYT 26 September 2024 which is tonight.
