Powerful new ROG Phone 9 series launched in Malaysia priced from RM3,999
Asus and their gaming-oriented Republic of Gamers marque have launched the ninth generation of their popular gaming phone dubbed the ROG Phone 9 series which comes in the top of the line ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition, the ROG Phone 9 Pro and the base ROG Phone 9 with the entire line-up featuring the top of the line Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset to tackle demanding mobile gaming duties.
The three variants are built along the same lines but have differing levels of RAM and storage, slightly different camera setups along with a more elaborate and larger Anime Matrix 648-pixel mini LED for the Pro and Pro Edition. The base model gets a more basic 85-pixel mini LED. Common across all models is a 57% larger graphite sheet for 12% better cooling performance.
ROG Phone 9 series specifications
The base ROG Phone 9 comes with a 6.78-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED with up to a 185Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits along with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to protect it from nicks and scratches.
Powering the phone is the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM with 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. In keeping with prior ROG Phones, the new ROG Phone 9 has two USB-C ports with one USB 2.0 on the base and a side-mounted USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port on the side to power the 5,800mAh battery. It also gets shoulder-mounted Air Triggers, a 3.5mm audio jack as well as fast WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and 5G connectivity.
On the rear, the ROG Phone 9 packs a 50MP F/1.9 camera with a 6-axis hybrid gimbal stabiliser, a 13MP F/2.2 ultra wide angle camera and a 5MP macro camera while the front hosts a 32MP selfie camera that outputs 8MP snaps.
The ROG Phone 9 Pro and ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition retain the same overall design, powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, battery capacity and display as the base model with the ROG Phone 9 Pro featuring 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage while the ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition gets a whopping 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage as well as the provision of a free Aeroactive Cooler X Pro attachable cooler system for sustained heavy gaming.
The ROG Phone 9 Pro and ROG 9 Pro Edition both have a similar 50MP F/1.9 main camera and 13MP F/2.2 ultra wide angle camera as the ROG Phone 9 but feature an upgunned 32MP F/2.4 telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and OIS instead of the base model’s 5MP maro camera to create a more comprehensive camera setup.
All ROG Phone 9 series phones also benefit from Google Gemini AI features including the ability for Circle to Search on the phone, text summaries and translations too though the ROG Phone 9 series does have several tricks up its proverbial sleeves including an X Sense 3.0 features that uses AI image recognition to detect key events and auto-collect as well as auto upgrade character skills for selected games for less stressful gaming. There’s also apparently an X Capture 2.0 feature that also uses image recognition to record key moments like wins and selecting characters for selected games too.
ROG Phone 9 series Malaysia price and early bird promotions
Starting from today in Malaysia, the ROG Phone 9 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is available priced at RM3,999 in your choice of Storm White and Phantom Black. The ROG Phone 9 Pro in Phantom Black with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage for RM4,999.
The top of the line ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition in Phantom Black with 24GB RAM as well as 1TB storage along with a free AeroActive Cooler X Pro cooler attachment is available priced at RM5,999.
ROG is also offering an array of accessories to complement the phone with the AeroActive Cooler X Pro available separately for RM399, the ROG Phone 9 antibacterial glass screen protector for RM149, an ROG Phone 9 Chill Case that offers a measure of passive cooling for RM199, the ROG Tessen Mobile Controller attachment for RM568 and the ROG Phone 9 Devilcase Guardian Standard case for RM149.
